merlin48 (340), Henderson, Kentucky, USA Dec 27, 2006 Dark and inky pour produces a one finger khaki head with garnet highlights. Fair retention with spotty lacing left on the glass. Dark roasty malt aromas of fresh Columbian coffee and bittersweet chocolate. A hint of fresh purple plums. Body is a notch less than full, still quite filling. Moderate carbonation is appropiate for style. Taste opens with creamy milk chocolate, quickly followed by roasted coffee notes. A walnut nuttiness not in the aroma adds depth. Dark fruits and red cherries in the background. Alcohol very well concealed. An excellent impy stout. Glad to see Mr. Oliver’s wares on the shelves in Kentucky.
mmm///beer (521), Austin, Texas, USA Aug 19, 2008 12 oz. bottle in trade from MaltOMeal- thanks! Served in tumbler- poured blacker than midnight in a bad thunderstorm, low-medium carbonation, 4mm tan head formed and stayed for a couple of smokes. Aroma of hearty dark chocolate, coffee that’s been sitting on the pot for 24 hours, and roasted malt. Hits the mouth with a wide body, malt is heavy and full of attitude, roasted characteristics make themselves known very easily with notes of smoke in the background, all around very clingy on the cheeks, finish creeps away slowly. Damn right! Guinness4Duff (456), Tallahassee (and Poconos, PA), Florida, USA Aug 19, 2008 On tap at Pocono Brewing Company. Black pour with a small brown head. Rich chocolatey, roasted aroma. Outstanding flavor, deep deep chocolate and perfectly roasted. Just a really great beer. Linnet (3), , Sweden does not count Aug 19, 2008 Looks very appetizing, and the aroma i s very rich with hints of coffee and chocolate. The after-taste is a bit too sharp and powerfull to give it a better grade, but all in all a very good imperial stout. NomDeBeer (129), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Aug 18, 2008 Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, and a touch of alcohol. Flavor is the same with a smooth, rich palate. bierkoning (4691), La Tropica, Netherlands Aug 14, 2008 Bottle, winter 06/07. Black and opague. Roast, dark chocolate and a hint of licorice in the aroma. Malty, salty flavor with licorice, cacao and dark chocolate, coming up strongly in the aftertaste. Full bodied, just a bit alcoholic, but well balanced.
