obguthr (707), Poquoson, Virginia, USA Oct 19, 2007 Malt, soy sauce, hop, and olive bouquet, with chocolate syrup underneath. Silky black pour with a thick brown head, minimal lacing. Powerfully strong taste of sour honey and walnut, a little medicny. Obvious high ABV, with a queer viscous acidity. I get the sensation of having blood in my mouth. Smoke and cilantro finish. I actually would prefer this dialed down a bit. It’s just too imposing. Great complexity, and nice transitions. The phenol almost ruins it for me.
unclemike (379), Ft. Riley, Kansas, USA Oct 11, 2008 Pours midnight black with ruby red light making it through only at the edges. Thick cappuccino-colored head that fades to leave persistent lacing. The aroma is of dark chocolate. The alcohol comes through in the aroma. There’s also a slight dark fruit, sherry like aroma on the nose. Fine dark chocolate comes through in the flavor, along with some expresso. Mouthfeel is very smooth and full of body The_Captain (331), Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 7, 2008 KSBF 08- Black pour with a tan foam head. Dark chocolate and cocoa aroma. Dark roast and full bodied of the style. Malt rich and sense the ABV. Some bitterness towards the finish. Great Stout but not a huge fan of the dark chocolate notes. Still a good drinker. xpimptastikx (24), Austin, Texas, USA Oct 7, 2008 Thanks to lb4lb.
Pours pure black with a small tan head. Tastes of bittersweet cocoa with roasted oats and coffee. kempicus (192), Wellington, New Zealand Oct 6, 2008 Tried thanks to Poperinge! What a beer, the inspiration for me to brew my own imperial stout....turned out well but not nearly as good as this! This is an awesome beer, massive chocolate and dark fruit goodness with a hint of smoke! kegbear (103), Orange, California, USA Oct 6, 2008 Bottle 2007. Pours a dark black with small light brown head. Aroma of bitter chocolate and coffee. Tastes of chocolate, roasted malt and coffee. Some alcohol present. Very nice.
