COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is the famous Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout, our award-winning rendition of the Imperial Stout style once made exclusively for Catherine the Great. We use three mashes to brew each batch of this beer, achieving a luscious deep dark chocolate flavor through a blend of specialty roasted malts. We brew it every year for the winter season. It is delicious when newly bottled, but also ages beautifully for years.

355ml Bottle - Black with a tan head. Liquorice, coffee, roasted malt and plain chocolate in the aroma. Rich, chocolatey and slightly tangy taste with salt liquorice, Bournville chocolate, roasted malt and coffee. Very complex, rich and indulgent.

355ml bottle. Poured inky black with a fizzy head that quickly disappeared and left things quite flat. Chocolate aroma, taste was coffee, chocolate and alcohol. Good, but not quite as good as I was expecting

Growler pour, 2011 vintage. Pours pitch black with a big tan head. Aroma is tons of rich chocolate and some coffee. Roasted maltiness. Really nice. Flavor is tons of dark chocolate, coffee bitterness. Still a little boozy despite 3 years. Very rich. More tame than when it’s fresh.

12oz bottle poured into a snifter. The Black Chocolate Stout pours, as one would imagine, black with a thick creamy dark caramel brown head that lasts a long while. The aroma is dark chocolate, molasses and woods. The flavor is dark chocolate, woods, molasses and a little roasty. Overall this is a great beer. The flavors are full and rich.

Winter 10-11 bottling. Chilled. Exceptionally dark, black body with a small-medium caffe-crema head. Besides the abundant chocolate, coffee and roasted malt aromas, bread, liquorice, almonds and raisins are also highly-prevalent. Despite the intense aromas, the taste is subtle and magnificently well-balanced; a light sweetness backed-up by a gentle bitterness. A full, robust body with a thick, heavy texture. Light-medium carbonation, with a prolonged head and considerable lacing. A lasting, toasted, lightly smoked finish. A simply outstanding beer of incredible complexity that benefits immensely from aging.

Bought this a few months ago on a vintage rack in Providence, RI, 2009 Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout, my first time drinking this beer nothing to compare it to, but heard it was delicious up there with Rogue. I can smell bourbon chocolate its deep and rich. Pours thick black, tan ring of foam. medium sweetness, medium bitterness, full body, creamy, lively, long finish. Delectable, a brilliant concoction, and gratifying choice.

Vertical 13/14 vs 14/15 thanks to CardsFan25. While COLD: the 14/15 has a nice chocolate flavor, but the nose is a bit weak. Notes of coffee on the nose, and random cherry type twang in the middle of the pallet, coffee finish. 13/14 Smells like chocolate syrup, and the smell is delightful. However, the taste is super mellow, and the chocolate has disappeared. Coffee presides throughout. Basically, I like the smell of the aged batch with the flavor of the fresh. While WARM: 14/15 retains some of the original hops, and adds more of a cherry flavoring. The hop burn from while cold is gone. 13/14 smells even better while warm, and finally the chocolate comes back. Maybe a powdered cocoa type taste? The 13/14’s alcohol is what carries the cherry flavor, but overall, the cellared brew came out fantastically when warmed.

Black chocolate appearance. Thick and tight. Little head. Drinks very thick with nice chocolate flavor. A little bit vinegary, guessing its been hanging on a shelf for a little while but stiill good.

In my opinion, imperial stouts move from good to great when the fruit pokes through the dark bitter body. It does here - something between cherry and raspberry making its presence felt amongst the toasted malts, dark chocolate and smoky coffee. The red fruit comes through on the nose too, alongside darker fruit, sherry and coffee. Full bodied with good carbonation. Colour: very dark, of course. It’s a good’un.

Bottle 330ml. Winter 2013-2014 edition. Dark black with big brown head. Aroma of dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malt and notes of vanilla. Sweet flavor, dark chocolate and coffee, moderate bitterness, notes of soy sauce, sweet-bitter sticky finish with alcohol warmth. Light carbonation, full-bodied. Very good.

On draught at Harry’s in Bermuda. Alcohol and chocolate dominate the nose. Black with brown head that quickly dissipates. Leaves nice lacing down the glass. Taste is mostly alcohol with cocoa nibs and bittersweet chocolate. Moderate bitterness and chalky aspects on finish. Lacking complexity for the style as it is really just chocolate and alcohol.
