COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is the famous Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout, our award-winning rendition of the Imperial Stout style once made exclusively for Catherine the Great. We use three mashes to brew each batch of this beer, achieving a luscious deep dark chocolate flavor through a blend of specialty roasted malts. We brew it every year for the winter season. It is delicious when newly bottled, but also ages beautifully for years.

UPDATED: NOV 19, 2007 04/05 bottling, 1 year old now. Jet black beer with a thick, light brown head, sticky lace. Gorgeous semi-sweet chocolate, light saltiness, prunes, a bit of peppery alcohol in the nose as well. Flavour is amazing. A year has brought the chocolate to the fore. The bitterness has diminished quite a bit, leaving a sweet dark chocolate flavour behind. Full-bodied and slightly sticky feeling in the mouth. Moderate roastiness, but plenty of dried fruit. Finishes sweet, with a touch of coffee, light spice and pepper. Amazing. 04/05 bottling. Pitch black with a thick fine-grained head. Sticky lacing. Sweet milk chocolate and malted milk aroma, with a light touch of salty licorice that intensifies as the beer warms. Full-bodied, chocolatey sweetness up front, a bit of dark fruit (prunes) and molasses in the middle before a big roasty and bitter finish. Very good brew. 8/5/8/4/17

07/08 drunk fresh. Pitch black with a huge sticky dark brown head. Aroma is loaded with bittersweet chocolate, soft fruit and charred malts. The flavour is sweet and sticky with a heavy roasty chocolatey sweetness. Good balance, warming alcohol. Full bodied with sweet raisin/prunes that comes out as the beer starts to warm up. Very chewy and earthy. Lovely beer, although I think it is better at about a year old. 8 5 8 4 17

Pours a deep dark slightly viscous black with a small brown head. Aroma is a strong chocolate with some roasted dark malts and espresso. Taste is chocolatey, with some roasted dark malt, espresso, and some hops and dark cacao bitterness. A rich full bodied and slightly viscous mouth feel with moderate carbonation on the palate. Finished with a bitter sweet choclatey and roasted dark malts, some espresso, ending is a long sweet lingering bitter chocolate flavor. Overall a delicious, flavorful, satisfying and nicely balance brew. A very enjoyable drink.

Bottle. Thick black pour with a creamy tan head that lasts a while. Aroma is very roasty with notes of dark chocolate, coffee, almonds, raisins, cherries and caramel. Flavour mirrors the aroma. Mouthfeel is thick and creamy with soft carbonation and a lingering roasty, bitter chocolatey finish. This is a superb stout; as thick as they come, it has the texture of a liquid dessert. Simply delicious.

Aroma is roasted malts, a light chocolate sweetness and some vinous notes. The flavor is heavy on the chocolate and roasted malts, along with vinous notes that lead to a tart/fruity malty finish.
