3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured from a 2012 bomber into a snifter.
A nice black with a tan head that didn’t stay around for long.
Taste is milk chocolate vanilla coffe oak with a sour like finish that is quite pleasing.
A bit thin for a Russian Imperial Stout-alas but the flavors keep it quite positive.
A nice brew looking forward to seeing how the other bottle I bought last year will age...

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
2012 bottle. Very boozy, sharp aroma of whiskey, anise, and a slight gun-cleaning solvent note. Pours a very dark brown with barely any head. Thinner body than I expected. Very sweet forward with fairly sharp bourbon, some light chocolate and a sour mash finish. Good, but it needs more age.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
FROM NOTES: July 27, ’12
Poured from a large bottle into a Spielgelau tulip.
A: Very pleasant bourbon notes, not overly boozy...vanilla and burnt malt, hints of roasted notes, chocolate, and just a touch of oak.
A: Pours thick, black, with a respectable light brown head that slowly recedes into the dark depths below. Really beautiful stout.
T: Starts off with vanilla and oak, then it fades into rich and sweet milk chocolate, and then finishes with some bitter roasty malts and coffee beans with a touch of warming alcohol. Not too complex but very delicious.
P: Very smooth moderate to full body with good carbonation.
O: This beer changed my opinion of Brooklyn Brewery and Mr. Oliver’s skill. By far my favorite Brooklyn beer, and world class in every way.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Jet black pour with a tan head. Aromas of cocoa, coffee, bourbon, and charred oak. Taste is a delicious combination of them all. The bourbon/oak character really makes it for me. So tasty and complex! No hint of the abv either, dangerously drinkable. Really great brew.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours black in the glass with a thin soapy head. Wonderful coffee and cocoa liqueur aroma. Flavor is just like the aroma, coffee, cream, cocoa liqueur. Overall, very awesome and very tasty. Thanks as always to BarZigKin for his generosity.

Taste: bourbon, toffee, sweet and salty licorice, chocolate, creamy.
Also had a couple of glasses at GBWF, some additional notes: chocolate pralines, red berries (but not tart) some wood.

4.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Bottle from 2012.
A: Oaky, boozy, smooth. Vanilla. A little too much sour oak. A little cinnamon or so as the beer warms. Almost smells like cinnamon toast crunch.
A: Pours thick and black. Head is amazingly creamy. Color is black in the glass but sort of gross dull dark brown on the pour.
T: Taste is amazing. Oaky, boozy, vanilla, a little sour acitiy in the middle that doesn’t linger. really this beer hits hard and leave smoothly. The oak is more balanced in the taste than in the smell.
P: Amazingly complex. Perfect carbonation. Huge flavors but the finish is smooth with lingering oak and vanilla.
This is an amazing beer. Oak and vanilla notes are huge (not getting a lot of coffee or chocolate... maybe hints?) and there is a unique sour note that slices through but fades quickly. Not overly acidic like a lot of imperial stouts. Extreamly unique. A must try. Only draw backs are oaky aroma and how it looks on the poor.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bottle: thanks, Mike! Deep brown & black pour with a mocha colored head that clouds up nicely, then fizzles out quickly. No lacing left behind. Aroma isn’t as robust as expected. Light vanilla, cocoa nibs, dark fudge, deep plums, lots of oak, & only a very timid onset of bourbon. Roasted malts in the rear. Doesn’t mesh exceptionally well. Taste mild like the aroma; very faint bourbon, mild cola-like flavors, hint of wood, cocoa beans, roasted malt. Again, not a great blend. Super drinkable, since it’s quite muzzled all around. Sharp carbonation, spritzy mouth feel (from the champagne yeast)... not the best idea. Mouth feel doesn’t suit this style at all, & doesn’t help with the weak flavors. Overrated.
