3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle: pours as black as youíd expect from the name. Aromas are roasted chocolate and vanilla. Some bourbon lingering in there. Taste is much the same, roasted chocolate, vanilla. Anise. Oak. There is some fruity notes too. There is a lot in this beer, wish I had another bottle to lay down for a couple years.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured a 2013 vintage into a snifter at approximately 45 degrees.
It pours an inky black and generates a nice chocolate-colored head. While it doesnít have that desired "motor oil" appearance, it does look nice in a glass.
The nose is heavy on the dark chocolate, molasses, and bourbon. It is a much more "hot" aroma than other top-tier BA stouts, but that isnít necessarily a bad thing. It doesnít wow me like some other beers of a similar ilk.
The palate is largely dark chocolate with large amounts of bourbon present. There is licorice, anise, roasted malts, and a distinct vanilla extract note.
problem with this beer has nothing to do with the beer itself; rather, I suppose the problem with Black Ops is that there are so many other beers present in this category that are so near perfect that beers that donít quite hit that level of perfection suffer. Such is the case with Black Ops; this is a very nice beer, but it isnít a beer at the quality level of, say, Bourbon County Brand Stout.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured black from champagne bottle. Smells of bourbon and wood. Taste begins sweet with chocolate and cherries, and finishes all bourbon/alcohol. Not the best barrel aged stout Iíve had, but still very good.

5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
The aroma develops as it breathes. Fruity, Carmel, boozy.
Flavor just keeps coming. Cellars well.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured from champagne bottle. Substantial caramel foam. Taste opens with apple and pear notes, middle is with chocolate malts, finishes all bourbon. Maybe the most bourbon forward beer Iíve ever had.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured black with a medium-sized brown head. Aroma has lots bourbon, wood, sweet chocolate. Very tasty and creamy with chocolate and bourbon. Aftertaste is sweet, some cherries. Alcohol well hidden, lots of wood. Overall great.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a black color with a brown head. Head seems to stick around for awhile. I was expecting a commando unit to come into my house when I opened this bottle but no such thing happened. I am a bit disappointed. Smells like bourbon, wood and chocolate. I taste coffee, chocolate and some wood. Pretty dry finish with a coffee aftertaste. Tasty!

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Was it bad, absolutely not. Is it as good as other comparable big bourbon barrel aged stouts? NO. I was disappointed with this one. It fell short in all categories. It wasnít offensive in any way, just lacking.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Bish/Dom at Gurdís bottle tasting evening. Am I allowed to stay that I found this slightly overrated? Licorice, liqueur, smoothness. Perfectly good.
