2011 bottle poured into a sniffer. Smells of smoked food products and bitter fruit. Pitch black in color, during the pour very dark brown with little to no head retention. Taste of dark bittersweet chocolate, coffee and bitter fruits. Very strong smoky flavor and a bit boozy at 10.7 ABV. Full bodied and heavy in the palate. Overall great beer enjoyed the experience at $22 a bottle I picked up the whole case. Currently have one left.

Kaatuu lasiin sysimustana ja runsaalla tummanruskealla vaahdolla, joka jättää vahvaa pitsiä. Haju on ennen kaikkea hyvin viskimäinen, siitä löytyy sekä tynnyrin aromia että vanilijaa. Alla on myös selvää suklaata ja hedelmää, löytyy jopa hieman ruohoa tai heinää. Viskin aromit kuitenkin suorastaan hyökkäävät nenään. Maku jatkaa samaa linjaa, vahva tynnyrin tuoma vivahde siihen on tullut, puuta ja vanilijaa löytyy. Nyt hieman yllättäen on kermaista toffeeta mukana makeuttaen ja tasaten hyvin viskin pistävyyttä. En tiedä tuntuiko vain siltä, mutta lievää nahkaisuuttakin löytyi mausta. Suutuntuma on hyökkäävä ja hieman pistävä, loppuliuku kuitenkin tasoittaa ja pelastaa melko paljon. Kaiken kaikkiaan Black ops on omaan makuun aivan liian viskinen, tässä ei tynnyrikypsytys ole ollenkaan osunut kohdalleen. Jos pitää viskimäisistä oluista, niin varmasti maistuu, mutta nyt tuntuu jopa kusetukselta. Mikään yllätyshän ei ole, että tässä ei hinta-laatusuhde ole lähelläkään oikeaa. Onneksi tämä oli jaettu kolmeen osaan, yksin juotuna loppu olisi saattanut mennä viemäriin..

This was a great stout! Loads of bourbon on the nose and smooth taste. Appearance is thick motor oil and nice tan head (super small bubbles!). Taste is very full and covers the gamut of normal imp. stout flavors with great bourbon undertones. Palate is super smooth! Love this beer!

Bottle from trade with umich03jm. Shared at Easter dinner, rating from memory. Black pour with an attractive head, and wonderful aroma mostly of dark chocolate, with hints of coffee and vanilla. Flavor is also mostly dark chocolate with some very subtle flavors of coffee and roasted grain. Nice, easy to drink, but was wishing for more complexity and depth to this. Tasted lighter than I would expect, but it was good. Finished with a good bit of alcohol coming in, but I thought too much so.

Bottle. Black, average and mostly diminishing dark brown head. Full malty and sweetish aroma, light roasted malt and some chocolate, lots of oak - vanilla, some notes of bourbon/alcohol. Body is medium to full, malty and sweetish flavor, light roasted malt and some coffee, lots of vanilla and some notes of bourbon/alcohol. Finish is average to long, malty and sweetish, light roasted malt and coffee, light salty licorice, and lots of vanilla and some notes of bourbon/alcohol. Way too much oak. "Create a hype - use oak". Nice but not worth the price.

Pours a jet black dark head. Aroma is big bourbon, chocolate. Great beer but not worth the 38$ I paid.

Very sweet aroma and little head. Sweet taste too. A bit of alcohol in the taste. Could have more body. Smoky and bourbon taste is evident.

2012 bottle, 03/20/2013. Pours black, mocha cream head with great retention and lacing. Aroma is powdered chocolate, and vanilla with strong bourbon notes, fruity esters, dark toffee and booze, really lots of barrel, some porter-like roast notes coming in as this warms. Taste is similar with vanilla milk chocolate liqueur, more pronounced roast character,fruity bourbon character. Thick, creamy palate. Pretty tasty.

750ml Bottle (2008 vintage, 10.7%) This beer has been hiding out in my stash for quite some time. The pour is black with a less than lively dark tan head. The aroma is mostly of molasses and dark fruits with hints of vanilla and chocolate. Not picking up much coffee in the nose. The flavors are much the same as the aroma. A lot of malt, molasses and raisin flavors. Hints of vanilla/bourbon and sherry. Nice smooth mouthfeel. Very balanced and the 10.7% abv is very well hidden. Not exactly what I was expecting. I need to try this beer fresh.

Bottle. Pours black with a brown head. Aroma has vanilla, oak and bourbon. Quite carbonated mouthfeel. The taste is consisent with aroma, having additional roastiness and being dominated by the taste of bourbon. Aftertaste is mainly bourbon and not too long.
