COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Barrel-aged in Woodford Reserve bottles. Brooklyn Black Ops does not exist. However, if it did exist, it would be a robust stout concocted by the Brooklyn brewing team under cover of secrecy and hidden from everyone else at the brewery. Supposedly, "Black Ops" was aged for four months in bourbon barrels, bottled flat, and re-fermented with Champagne yeast, creating big chocolate and coffee flavors with a rich underpinning of vanilla-like oak notes. They say there are only 1000 cases. We have no idea what they’re talking about.

Would post a more professional review but with the hype and the price I was too disappointed. Flavor was oak and dark fruit at lower temperature, vanilla oak and bourbon as it warmed. Flavors never really come together to compliment each other and it drank like syrup. Overall impression was a good recipe with poor execution.

Bottle. Pours black with an offwhite head. Smells of a beautiful bourbon with vanilla. Tastes strongly of vanilla, with a heavy sweetness and mild bitter. Medium bodied. Light carbonation. Creamy texture. Finishes slightly cloyingly.

Dark brown with a tiny, tan head. Malty with fruity tones. Malt, vanilla, oak and fruit. Full body with a bitter sweet after taste.

Bottle from Hops and vines. Pours Black with two fingers of khaki head. Just a beautiful beer to look at. Big aroma with notes of vanilla and cocoa and a slight hint of toffee. The taste is big as well with the vanilla becoming more prominent as the beer warms.Finishes clean. It’s a rich robust brew to be luxuriated over. Unfortunately I drank it a lot quicker then I wanted but it was too good to put down.

Bottle - hops & vines- pours black with 2 fingers of lively milk chocolate foam. Aroma is malty, chocolate, caramel, and the bite of alcohol. Taste is sweet with a barely bitter finish. Palate has some weight like milk. I’m tasting a bit of the alcohol but not so much that it is a negative. I’d also note that we got it for $29, but later saw it for $23 at Appalachian Vintner. Ouch. Probably wouldn’t pay that much to get it again, but I’m enjoying it now.

UPDATED: DEC 22, 2011 750ml bottle.Black pour with a good amount of tan head. Aromas of bourbon, oak, vanilla, and some roast. Slightly sweet with lots of bourbon, alcohol, wood - chocolate and coffee as it warms. Not worth the price.

I would say that I found a bottle at spirits. It may have been a corked and caged 750ml that poured I nice deep brown with an espresso color head. Possibly smelled of bourbon, vanilla, roasted malt, and yeast. At first the flavor was all bourbon but after I let it sit for a few minutes the range of flavors opened up. Chocolate and espresso laced into a beautiful whiskey and oak flavor. Mouth feel has a silky corbonation from the champagne yeast. But this beer never happend...... Cheers.

Thanks Dak for helping me get this. So, if I had tasted this, the alcohol shows up all thru this, the nose, the taste, and the finish. There is a roasted malt in the aroma. Not as thick as I was expecting. The Bourbon is not as stronge as I expected. It is very woody with some coffee notes showing up. It has a clean finish, but it is too hot. Its good, but I would not go out of my way to get this again.
