Barrel-aged in Woodford Reserve bottles. Brooklyn Black Ops does not exist. However, if it did exist, it would be a robust stout concocted by the Brooklyn brewing team under cover of secrecy and hidden from everyone else at the brewery. Supposedly, "Black Ops" was aged for four months in bourbon barrels, bottled flat, and re-fermented with Champagne yeast, creating big chocolate and coffee flavors with a rich underpinning of vanilla-like oak notes. They say it’s vanishingly rare. We have no idea what they’re talking about.

(Bottle). Sweet and gigantic aroma and taste of brown sugar, vanilla, roasted malt, bourbon, warming alcohol and barrel and oak notes. Superbly tasty!

Bottle at home. Has a pitch black colour with a medium, light beige, compact head. Roasted aroma with leather, licorice, lactose, aceton, oak, coffee, vanilla and chocolate. The flavour has more bourbon, roasted malt and alkohol. Soft and silky mouth feel, and has a medium bitterness. A nice and well-balanced imperial stout with a distinct bourbon touch.

Sipped a vertical of 2011, 2012 and 2013. Found the 2011 a bit thin and heavy on the roast character with some dusty yeast and fruity esters adding alayer that I didn’t necessarily enjoy. 2012 made up for it with a bit more dark fruit, some anise and bourbon character became more apparent. Still lighter than expected and the heavy carbonation from the champagne yeast probably helps with the mouthfeel. 2013 was by far my favorite with a great balance and more pronounced bourbon character than any other vintage. Big roasty chocolate notes with layers of complexity. Dried fruit, blueberry, bitter bakers chocolate, tar, vanilla bean.

Small sample from bottle @ Zeebra II. Pours dark brown to black with a small tan head. Aroma is sweet with licorice, some chocolate, roasted malts and alcohol. Taste has some roasted malts, coffee, licorice and a bit of alcohol. Over medium body and medium carbo.

Original 750ml bottle received from Brooklyn Brewery in Jan 2013. Enjoyed home with friends from wide belgian abbey glass. Surprisingly smooth compared to expectations. Carbonation and alcohol a bit too strong presense. Palate beautiful, not too complex, yet delicate and distinguished. Still would not buy with own money.

Faktiskt besviken. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2012 bottle 750ml. snifter. Deep brown with small lite brown head. A: bourbon, dark chocolate, molasses, roasted malt, anise, figs. T: less bourbon, more sweet molasses descending to mildly bitter roasted malt with oak, vanilla and some toffee notes. Smooth, but a touch too much carbonation. Very good, but not exceptional.

2009 traded bottle. Gorgeous dark, almost black, pour with a brown head. Surprisingly light aroma of dark, sweet malt, and I swear peanut butter. The flavor does have a little bourbon at first then a little malt and finishes with a nice espresso and dark chocolate bitterness. Good but it seemed a little muted overall.

Bottle shared by SWE-X, thanks! Black with a huge beige head. Aroma has coffee, skumbanan, winegum and lots of alcohol. Taste is roasted with skumbanan/marshmallows, coffee, lots of alcohol. Medium bodied with high carbonation, dry mouth feel. Dry chocolatey after taste.
Not very impressive. A bad bottle?
