COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Barrel-aged in Woodford Reserve bottles. Brooklyn Black Ops does not exist. However, if it did exist, it would be a robust stout concocted by the Brooklyn brewing team under cover of secrecy and hidden from everyone else at the brewery. Supposedly, "Black Ops" was aged for four months in bourbon barrels, bottled flat, and re-fermented with Champagne yeast, creating big chocolate and coffee flavors with a rich underpinning of vanilla-like oak notes. They say it’s vanishingly rare. We have no idea what they’re talking about.

This is god-damned fantastic. I can"t begin to explain how happy I am to finally try this. It is a barrel aged decadence that I could only wish was just a touch more creamy and had just a bit more malty sweetness. For craft lovers who don’t want quite the overwhelming sweetnessthat I normally prefer, this is (without question) a BA impy stout worth trading for. Easily said... a beer for the ages. *He said after having well over two dozen 2oz impy stout pours.*

75cl bottle served in a snifter. Pours dark brown with a bubbly, light tan head which disappears shortly after the pour. Aroma is strong bourbon with typical imperial stout aromas very much demoted to the secondary position here. Taste is heavy booze, bourbon, charred oak, tobacco, (very) dark, chocolate and a sweetness which balances out the bitter and earthy notes admirably. A massively complex beer with endless maltiness and burnt flavours. Initially upon opening a little over carbonated and less viscous than some top tier Imperial Stouts but this is the real deal.

Pours black as used motor oil with a thick foamy tan head. Nose is oaky, boozy, malty. Notes of anise, prune, molasses, maybe a hint of tobacco. Taste is very well-balanced. Deep rich primordial beast of a brew. Love it! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

750 mL corked and caged bottle, 2013 vintage, shared with ebone1988. The pour is a medium black with a thinner light tan head and a good lace. The champagne definitely throws the typical head density out the window. The aroma is definitely carrying a resounding sweetness from the champagne yeast, but the chocolate hops on that pretty well. There is a decent roasted malt and a good chocolate depth. Light coffee and vanilla notes poke through and there is a good oakiness on the back end. The flavor is incredibly sweet. Not even chocolate or malty sweet. Champagne sweet. There is a bourbon flavor that moves in half way through and carries out the back end. Malts kind of make their presence known and then fall off. The mouth feel is really light and watery. The carbonation isn’t really prevalent and this baby jumps off the tongue quickly. The aftertaste is lingeringly sweet bourbon and a touch of oak. By God I’m glad I don’t have any more of these. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle shared with koleminer20, 2013 vintage. Aroma is champagne, milk chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, vanilla. Appearance is black, light brown head. Taste is pretty bland, sweetness overtakes with light roasted malt, milk sugar, chocolate, slight vanilla. Mouthfeel is light, not much booze or barrel presence, not much happening. Overall, very disappointing.
