COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Barrel-aged in Woodford Reserve bottles. Brooklyn Black Ops does not exist. However, if it did exist, it would be a robust stout concocted by the Brooklyn brewing team under cover of secrecy and hidden from everyone else at the brewery. Supposedly, "Black Ops" was aged for four months in bourbon barrels, bottled flat, and re-fermented with Champagne yeast, creating big chocolate and coffee flavors with a rich underpinning of vanilla-like oak notes. They say it’s vanishingly rare. We have no idea what they’re talking about.

750mL to wine glass Alcohol is the most prevalent aroma, followed by vanilla, and dark chocolate, cherries, and soy. Deep brown/black with a thin beige/brown head. Cherry, chocolate, vanilla taste and well balanced. Full bodied, thick with a warm finish. Good now, but it'll get better.

Thanks Habocok for IP trade. Anno 2013.

Excellent barrel aged stout. Not too bourbon flavored and chocolately. Pours black in color with a tan head. Slight alcohol finish. Had at bottle and cans ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

750ml Bottle at home from mchughs. Pours deep black with off white lasting head. Rum, raisin, chocolate, vanilla coffee nose. Flavour is light, disappointingly light. Coffee chocolate. Needs a bigger body but still pretty decent.

Transfer from BA review on 3-9-14- 2012 vintage poured from bottle into a snifter Appearance – The beer pours thick pitch black color with a one finger of tan colored head. The head has a good level of retention, slowly fading to leave a tons of foamy lace on the sides of the glass. The robustness of the brew can be seen when swirling it in the glass as it clings to the sides of the snifter with sticky fingers of the viscous liquid. Smell – The aroma of the beer is big of a roasted malt smell as well as some other darker aromas of cocoa and coffee. Along with the darker aromas are some sweeter smells with some caramel and vanilla as well as a darker fruit aromas of raisin, plum, and prune bringing on a light fruity chocolate bar smell. While these smells are all present, the biggest aroma of all is a massive and nice smooth, but yet somewhat burning bourbon aroma, containing big oaky and char smells, which when mixed with the sweet and darker aromas brings a fantastic warming boozy dark smell to the nose. Taste – The taste begins somewhat thinner then I would have expected from the nose with a moderately roasty and sweeter flavor. Some flavors of vanilla and chocolate are present from the start upfront with some lighter flavors of caramel and cola sweetness. As the taste advances some light earthy flavors join the taste as well as some more bitter flavors of a more tannin like grape. All the while the roasted flavors seem to dwindle. The bourbon flavors, as well as more woody and oaky flavors, come to the tongue more toward the middle and the end of the taste. Some other darker fruit flavors of raisin and plum come to the tongue at the same time and with by this time a loss of a good deal of the roast. When all these flavors combined in the end, they up leaving a somewhat sweet, but only lightly roasted and more lightly bourbon boozy flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is thinner then would have been expected from the look as well as to thin for the style and the abv., as it doesn’t really accentuate the nice bourbon flavors of the beer and falls short for enhancing the darker and roastier flavors of the brew. The medium carbonation however was rather good for the sweeter flavors, yielding an overall decent feel even in light of the thinner body. Overall – The aroma and look of the beer (especially the aroma) were fantastic and really gave me high hopes after the initial pour. The taste and the feel however fell a bit short of expectations for the price I had to pay (~$20). The feel was too thin and the taste was not roasty enough and fell short of the big bourbon aromas that I was hoping would be present on the tongue as well.

On cask at Frisco Taphouse and Brewery in Columbia, MD. Opaque, raspberry-black with no head and trivial lacing. Aroma of licorice, whiskey, vanilla, very sweet roasted malt, dark fruit and oak. Taste of sweet roasted malt, licorice, chocolate, dark fruit and bourbon. Medium body and low carbonization. Overall, I am not impressed. The aroma is fantastic, but it tails of from there. It has the appearance of a dark, thick brew. But, where is the lacing? (I assume the lack of a head is because it was on cask.). The taste is sweet and boozy and lacks the interesting complexity promised by the aroma. Perhaps age will improve this beer, but the beer in front of me, while very good, falls short of greatness. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: SEP 28, 2014 Bottle 2013. Black. Spiced cocoa aroma with the champagne yeast character very prominent. The taste follows adding more bitter cocoa, roasted malts, oak, vanilla bourbon hints, yeast in a crazy champagne feel. Smoot, drinkable interesting complex flavors and body. Very unique.

UPDATED: SEP 13, 2014 Cerveza muy negra. Con espuma marrón, con forma de mousse que se queda en una especie de crema expresso. Olor a whiskey, bourbon. El sabor es achocolatado y a café pero también a bourbon. Sorprendentemente seca, carbonatada en boca. Es algo muy especial.
