COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Barrel-aged in Woodford Reserve bottles. Brooklyn Black Ops does not exist. However, if it did exist, it would be a robust stout concocted by the Brooklyn brewing team under cover of secrecy and hidden from everyone else at the brewery. Supposedly, "Black Ops" was aged for four months in bourbon barrels, bottled flat, and re-fermented with Champagne yeast, creating big chocolate and coffee flavors with a rich underpinning of vanilla-like oak notes. They say it’s vanishingly rare. We have no idea what they’re talking about.

Poured from a 2012 bomber into a snifter. A nice black with a tan head that didn’t stay around for long. Taste is milk chocolate vanilla coffe oak with a sour like finish that is quite pleasing. A bit thin for a Russian Imperial Stout-alas but the flavors keep it quite positive. A nice brew looking forward to seeing how the other bottle I bought last year will age...

Black with a black and creamy tan head with good duration. Aroma has notes of Bourbon and roasted mals with vanilla notes. Flavor is slightly sweet, high presence of borbon, licorice and coffee beans with dark fruits hints. The final is bittery with bourbon notes, light to medium body with a minimal carbonation on it.

Bomber poured into a snifter. Pours opaque black with a 1-finger caramel-colored head. Mild aroma of chocolate, with a note of vanilla oak underneath. Body is full and moderately oily. Long finish, with a boozy astringency. Flavors of chocolate and coffee up front, giving way to a caramel-bourbon note. Vanilla oak comes in at the back, with a touch of booze to it. Excellent as is, but likely even better with some aging.

75cl bottle served in a snifter. Pours dark brown with a bubbly, light tan head which disappears shortly after the pour. Aroma is strong bourbon with typical imperial stout aromas very much demoted to the secondary position here. Taste is heavy booze, bourbon, charred oak, tobacco, (very) dark, chocolate and a sweetness which balances out the bitter and earthy notes admirably. A massively complex beer with endless maltiness and burnt flavours. Initially upon opening a little over carbonated and less viscous than some top tier Imperial Stouts but this is the real deal.
