4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20Bottle (750ml). At Cole’s Rare Beer Fest, January 2009. Beer of the day for me - damn this is good stuff. Opaque black pour with a lasting solid light brown creamy head (4+). the aroma had an odd, but appealing, mix of candy sugar, treacle, herbal bitterness and slightly sour deep roast malt. The taste followed, more herbal bitterness, some alcohol asserting itself, quite creamy, seemed like there was baker’s chocolate in there.... so rich. Silky mouthfeel, solid body, only mildly carbonated, but such a well-crafted finish, even a touch of acidity to take your mind off the roast and booziness - I got virtually no bourbon at all from this, maybe a hint of vanilla, but just a hint. Fantastic.

2012 From Alko in Kirkkonummi Finland. Pours pitch black with thick caramelle color head that quickly subsided. Aromas of dark chocolate with a slight hint of vanilla. Taste sharpish but robust when cold, rounds up when warmer. Did not get strong bourbon aspects first, but satisfying dry after the robust sweetness. Aftertaste reveals strong bourbon.
All in all, a satisfyingly complex beer.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines, dark brown pour with white head, heavy bourbon aroma that is backed up with a complex stout, bourbon and sweet coffee vanilla a beer you can’t bored of :)

Bouteille .75l, courtoisie de rextalionis. Black. Really massive fresh oaky nose- like chewing on a pencil. Vanilla, dark fruits. Body is surprisingly light. Dark fruits, licorice. Quite nice, but slightly too thin to be great.

Bottle 75 cl. Pours black in color with a small bubbly tan head. Vanilla is overwhelming in aroma, some wood and dark chocolate with a marzipan sweetness as well. Vinous notes as well. Slightly boozy and vanilla in taste as well. The notes from oak barrel is clearly there. Tasty in its own way.

2012. Another great case of overhyped, overrated, overpriced. My dad bought this one after I smashed some bricks for him in the yard for few hours. Bourbon barrel is way too heavy on this - unbalances the chocolate, and vanilla. Finishes sweet and bitter. Creamy texture. Booze very evident, possibly the bourbon barrel makes it really come out. Would not recommend as an investment.

Garreth Oliver tasting at cardinal., Black colour with a small head. Aroma is liquorice, fruits, mild coffee and some chocolaty notes as well. Flavour is liquorice, vanilla, coffee, chocolate, mild roasted malts as well as some slight ripe furity and ashy notes.

Bottle 2013 few months old. Pours predictably black with dark tan head and little lace. Aroma is primarily moderate bourbon, strong anise, cold brewed coffee, light burnt roast. Flavor is more anise, wood, a little tang, peppery hop, leaning bitter. Feel is lighter and more lively than i would expect. Really good but i think it must be better with time in order to rate so highly. Not super complex right now.

22 ounce shared bottle. Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of coffee, malt, chocolate, and bourbon. Taste is dark chocolate, coffee, bourbon, vanilla, and alcohol. Well done!

Pours pitch black with a brown head. A very nice beer with tonnes of flavor. A lot of character from the barrels with vanilla, bourbon, wood and chocolate. A light acidity from the roasted malts.
