COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Barrel-aged in Woodford Reserve bottles. Brooklyn Black Ops does not exist. However, if it did exist, it would be a robust stout concocted by the Brooklyn brewing team under cover of secrecy and hidden from everyone else at the brewery. Supposedly, "Black Ops" was aged for four months in bourbon barrels, bottled flat, and re-fermented with Champagne yeast, creating big chocolate and coffee flavors with a rich underpinning of vanilla-like oak notes. They say it’s vanishingly rare. We have no idea what they’re talking about.

Bottle shared by punkrkr27, thanks man! Pours a pitch black with thin dark tan head. Aroma strong of alcohol, bourbon, chocolate, vanilla, and molasses. Flavor matches well, but is dominated by the alcohol for me. This needs to mellow, if you can get past the alcohol (not easy for me), it has some wonderful characteristics, like the coffee I didn’t gather in the aroma. I have a bottle of this I will be sitting on for at least 6 months to try again.

Bottle at home, 21st May 16. Black minimal head, aroma is bourbon, slight wood. Taste is bourbon forward, booze quite evident, chocolate, loads more bourbon, booze. As it warms it gets better, I am surprised with the high rating, I’ve had hundreds of impys and far better.

On cask at Blind Tiger, NYC. Strong licorice and alcohol flavor which alone kills it for me. Really a bit on the boozy side, minimal stout flavor. I’m beginning to like some of Brooklyn’s beers. Unfortunately this won’t be one of them. Go for the Niziah Bliss instead.

Bottle sampled at a tasting. Dark pour, with a coarse espresso head. Smells of alcohol, milk chocolate, anise, champagne yeast. Tastes like sugar, milk chocolate and lactose - pretty underwhelming. Meium body and medium carbonation.

Black color with brown head. Aroma is astringent, slightly alcoholic and a bit of chocolate and roast in the background. Taste is also pretty boozy, dry at first but the finish is fudgy with bourbon notes. Medium body and carbonation. Not bad but it’s not what I would expect from a barrel aged imperial stout.

Alpha10 (548) - Ontario, CANADA - MAR 20, 2016
2016/03/20 - Pours a dark motor oil colour with a thick, foamy, tan head that slowly reduces to a patchy film that leaves minimal lacing. Aroma is milk chocolate, coffee, molasses, dark fruits, oak, vanilla and bourbon notes. Taste is cocoa, soy, coffee, oaky-vanilla notes, molasses and strong bourbon. Mouthfeel is thin to medium and slick with low carbonation and a warming, boozy finish. Not as well rounded as the top tier barrel aged stouts, but delicious nonetheless. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
