Barrel-aged in Woodford Reserve bottles. Brooklyn Black Ops does not exist. However, if it did exist, it would be a robust stout concocted by the Brooklyn brewing team under cover of secrecy and hidden from everyone else at the brewery. Supposedly, "Black Ops" was aged for four months in bourbon barrels, bottled flat, and re-fermented with Champagne yeast, creating big chocolate and coffee flavors with a rich underpinning of vanilla-like oak notes. They say it’s vanishingly rare. We have no idea what they’re talking about.

Bottle shared by punkrkr27, thanks man! Pours a pitch black with thin dark tan head. Aroma strong of alcohol, bourbon, chocolate, vanilla, and molasses. Flavor matches well, but is dominated by the alcohol for me. This needs to mellow, if you can get past the alcohol (not easy for me), it has some wonderful characteristics, like the coffee I didn’t gather in the aroma. I have a bottle of this I will be sitting on for at least 6 months to try again.

Bottle thanks to Dmac shared at Anchorage Dec ’14 Tasting: Poured black brown with light brown head. Aroma is sticky sweet booziness and rugged malts that stick to the nose. Taste was sweet chocolate, vanilla, very malty, and very lively on the palate.

Bottle to glass. Pours a deep brown to black color with a creamy medium brown head. Light black marker, burnt roasted malts. Flavor is chocolate, roasted malts, light anise. Had it before and the black marker character was overwhelming. Much better with a bit of aging.

Fruity, whiskey nose - very nice. Dark tan head on a pitch colored brew. Tangy but smooth. Sour fruit and mild whiskey. Decent but a little less than I expected. Thanks to someone at Baby Proof for sharing.

2010 (rating ~ 4.3) and 2011 (rating ~ 4.6) editions sampled back-to-back in Dec. 2014. Both clearly excellent. Oddly, the 2010 seemed a bit hotter despite the extra year of aging, but it turns out the ABV was higher that year. O: very well crafted, rich and balanced.
