Bollte. The pour was a thick deep dark black with an average sized (1-2 finger) medium cocoa brown rocky head that had awesome retention, reducing to a nice thick cap of foam and had really excellent sheets of lace.
The aroma was bold and robust of a roasted chocolate malt and a stringent leathery yeast with notes of dark chocolate, roasted coffee, molasses, vanilla, licorice and a vivacious bourbon scent.
The taste was extremely malty and a tad sweet with hints of coffee and molasses at first and then became ever so lightly bitter with notes of chocolate, vanilla and a mild bourbon taste towards the end. The flavor lingered for a good long while allowing for the chocolate, coffee and vanilla taste to blend as the alcohol taste faded.
Mouthfeel was bold and full in body with an extremely creamy texture and a moderately strong carbonation.
Overall a fully robust Stout with a nice hint of vanilla to go along with everything else this brew had going for it...

Oil black with a small head. Nice whiff of oak and chocolate in the aroma, some tiny vanilla. There is underlying heat but this is reallty smooth. Very good from a solid brewery.

Bottle - multiple vintages - dark pour with lively mocha head. Nose is fairly roasty with some chocolate and booze. Taste is a little different from most others in this style which is likely the doing of the different type of yeast. Fairly light on the palate but likely more from the carbonation. Very solid.

Powerful nose! Chocolate, coffee, the whiskey too, appearance is beautiful, pitch black with a large tanned head. Palate is full on and creamy, with flavours of chocolate, a lot of vanilla, coffee, a lot of oak and whiskey. All marry very well. Fantastic.

Poured into a tulip, enjoyed next to the campfire. Pours insane black with a nice tan head, very small carbonation bubbles. Aroma is of bourbon upfront with dark toasty notes. Little bit of fruitiness as well. Taste is well balanced, dark toasted malts bourbon is not overbearing. Dark fruits like raisins. Overall a killer beer. Malty chocolately , bourboney.

2013 bottling. Black ops is a black brown opaque beer with a thick head of larger mocha bubbles. Nose is strong with Oak, vanilla, and very dark chocolate. Also, alcohol, bourbon and sweet caramel. Taste is woody dry and creamy. middle way there is oak and some rich bitter chocolate. Finishes just a bit warming, bitter and creamy. body is silky and slightly lively. A very impressive beer.

Bottle. Fresh. Alcohol smell overwhelms everything. Dark malts and alcohol up front with unsweetened chocolate. This will kick ass in a few years.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours dark black with a a khaki colored head, it smells of bourbon, vanilla notes as well as coffee and chocolate. The taste leads with a mouthfull of bourbon followed by chocolate and then goes to a bit of coffee, the body is a bit thinner than I expected. I think this beer is overhyped, it is a good stout but not worth the search

Pours a deep dark brown/black color with light tan head. Boozy, grainy, roasty and chocolate aroma. Big boozy and sweet flavor, barrel like character with some oak notes, grainy. Pretty good stout, a little hot and grainy but I like to make drink time.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Very dark brown, almost black, mocha lacing. Aroma is sweet but mild, bourbon, baker’s chocolate, some vanilla, caramel, and hints of coffee. Very little sweetness in the taste and rounds out with a slight tart twang. Fairly smooth but thinner body than expected. Little carbonation and the finish is abrupt.

Glass from 25 oz bottle at American taproom The stout poured a deep black and no head. The aroma was mild due to the beer’s temperature. At the beginning it was too cold. The aroma was a mild blend of chocolate and bourbon. What a wonderful experience. This is creamy tasting stout with bourbon, chocolate and a hint of coffee. The medium body had soft carbonation. The finish was smooth with lingering bourbon on the tongue.
