3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 chimay67 (41) - hunt sta, New York, USA - MAY 23, 2010
A little lighter in color than one would expect in a DUIPA/Imperial IPA. But everything else is present and accounted for. I really enjoyed the tropical fruit flavors in the finish from the hops. I got pineapple, guava, passion fruit and grapefruit in the tail end of this one. Nice body, no noticiable alcohol present, great aroma. Very enjoyable.
3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 gearbike (496) - West Bloomfield, Michigan, USA - MAY 23, 2010
Was a little worried about an ipa with the name blast being over the top but this is very drinkable. Hazy orange from tap looks like a summer wheat beer. Medium body with big piney grapefruit type hops.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 craftbeerdesign (1831) - Alpharetta, Georgia, USA - MAY 22, 2010
on tap at Taco Mac, Cumming, GA served in a snifter glass. Arrived at the table a pale yellow with a quarter inch white head... beautiful citrus hop filled aroma with apricot, peach and orange notes... quite different from most IIPA aromas... medium creamy body with some heavy bitterness up front, while soft on the sides... the fruit notes shine through over the top of the mouth, while some malt balanced things out towards the finish.... with some lingering bitterness on the back. I really enjoyed this special beer from Brooklyn... wish it was bottled.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 puboflyons (1111) - Allenstown, New Hampshire, USA - MAY 22, 2010
On tap. It pours a cloudy pale yellow with a thin fizzy head the bursts outward and then inward in seconds. The aroma greets me with a hearty dose of floral hops at the beginning but a pleasingly mild ending. While there are plenty of hops in the taste they all come together to create a tempered, toned-down experience, which makes it easier to drink. The body is creamy and bold.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 yinzerbeernut (180) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 22, 2010
On Draft - Deep amber color with a nice carbonation and an egg shell colored head that produced nice lacing. There is plenty of fruity hop flavors, apricot, orange peel, and lemon. There was an initial hit of malt sweetness on mouth followed by a side hit of hop. The finish is a nice rounded crisp feel.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 finol (1217) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - MAY 21, 2010
Draught at Copenhagen Beer festival.
Pours golden with a big white head.
Absolutely lovely tasting IPA, perfect west coast!
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 FROTHINGSLOSH (3205) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 20, 2010
Sampled on draft at The Headkeeper in Greensburg PA this beer poured a dark golden color with a medium sized yellow-white head that lingered and produced good lacing. The aroma was very strong, tart and sweet with notes of grapefruit, pineapple and pine. The flavor was tart, tangy and sweet with strong notes of grapefruit, pineapple, pine, Sweettart candies, pepper and caramel. The finish was long with fruity and floral hops lingering. Full bodied. Excellent.
4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 SSKD814 (854) - Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 19, 2010
On-tap at bocktown this evening. Served in a 12 oz snifter.
A-Body is a nearly transparent light, somewhat faded amber hue. Served with a 1/2 finger soapy white head that has good retention at a thick collar. Minimal traces of lacing left behind in the glass.
S- Awesome. A big dose of citrus-full of bright white grapefruit and orange arise first. A slight earthy/mustiness is also noticeable with a thin but still presence sweet caramel and pale malt backbone.
T-Taste is pretty similar to the smell. Lots of grapefruit and citrus upfront-though not quite as bright as the nose...and a slightly sweet malt backbone. The mustiness isn’t in the flavor as it was in the nose. The finish has a touch of pine and herbal hops but is mostly the citrus intensifying with a mild kick of spiciness. What lingers is a mild citrus rind bitterness...which doesn’t really last that long.
P- Medium tingly carbonation and a fairly light and drinkable body. Not really oily but certainly not thin.
O- This is a very good DIPA. The hop profile reminds me ever so slightly of the brooklyn-schneider hopfen weisse. I really like the brooklyn special release/seasonal brews (BCS, Local 1, local 2,..the collaborations with schneider)...and this one is just as good as those...much mroe impressive then their regular lineup.
