3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Acetobacter (816) - Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 14, 2010
Enjoyed on tap in a pub glass. The beer pours a light to medium amber color, with a moderate white head. Beautiful notes of grapefruit and danky Simcoe hops come through in the nose. Initially, the palate seems to simply show a wonderfully complex bitterness and resiny hop flavor; and seems to be rather devoid of malt character. However, as the sample warms, an underlying note of diacetyl comes through. Yet, given the skill of Garrett Oliver, this may simply be a slightly too heavy hand with the crystal 20 malt. Carbonation is correct. The finish leaves a lingering bitterness, a catty/citrusy hop flavor, and a pleasant dryness that is lacking in far too many examples of the style. Overall, an excellent example.

@ Copenhagen Beer Fest. Pours golden. Really liked this DIPA. It’s not the most aggressive beer of this style, but it has got a nice creamy smoothness and sweet sweet tropical fruits.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 kidmartinek (1757) - austin, Texas, USA - MAY 7, 2010
Cloudy golden yellow like a hefeweizen, except without the head. Cardboard, light resin, hop aroma. Weak lace. Thick texture, but only mildly strong hops to accomodate it. Delicious no doubt, but too flat to be pure enjoyment. At least the finish is bitter.
3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Butters (2841) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - MAY 6, 2010
UPDATED: MAR 21, 2011 On draft at Taco Mac Decatur. Clear yellow pour with ring of bright white head. I hope this keg is old and somehow oxidized. Kinda weak nose is grapefruity, with a dark blackberry note, which is kinda cool. But the flavor dissappoints with a grassy, cardboardy, breadiness, that turns into a very bitter lingering finish. Very low carbonation. Not too impressed with this. But not horrible.
Sampled again at Brewvival 2011. Piney and great fresh green hop flavor. Enjoyed much more this time around.

Draft. Golden pour with white head. Orange citrusy, and pine aroma notes. Some warming but most flavor attributed to the hops, both fruity and pine in charcater. Nice IIpa.

Pours a golden yellow color with a grapefruit, hops, and pine aroma. Well-balance flavor of grapefruit, caramel, pine, and hops. Easy drinking for a higher alcohol content. Very nice.
