We brew our beer in New York, about halfway between the hop fields of the Pacific Northwest and the hop fields of Kent, England. So we use earthy English hops to build the foundation and bright citrusy American hops to bring the noise in the rambunctious IPA we call BLAST! British Maris Otter and German Pilsner malts lends solidity, balance and bready flavors to brace up a beer that’s beautifully hoppy, strangely quaffable and oddly compelling. Minerally hop bitterness is followed by a shock wave of flavor and aroma. You won’t even know what hit you.

Malts: Scottish Floor-malted Maris Otter, German Pilsner Malt

Hops: Willamette, Magnum, Cascade, Fuggle, Aurora, Zythos, Bravo, Simcoe, Sorachi Ace, Amarillo, Experiment 6300

Bottle. Pours a hazy yellow gold body with a small fizzy white head that faded to a very thin ring. The nose is citrusy and slightly resiny hops with a pale malt base. The flavor is rather bracingly bitter up front at first, but the hop flavor emerges a bit with some citrusy fruitiness. A nice bready and doughy malt base that provides a nice backdrop for all the hops without being sweet or heavy on the caramel like a lot of DIPAs. Medium to full bodied with a softness to it that’s unusual for the style. Pretty nice beer, I could drop a few of these guys.

Bottle. It pours cloudy orange with a small white head. Loads of caramel malts and some butter in the aroma mixed with fruity hops and marmalade. Sweet malty flavor with some citrus hoppy notes. Some fruity notes. Some alcoholic notes. Not very good.

Nose has lots: caramel malt/mince pie sweetness; honey/spice of a Belgian tripel; somewhat piney fruit (orange juice; apricot; unripe mango). In the mouth, a tea-y/bread-y flavour; slightly fizzy, but also slightly cream-y afterwards. A slightly bitter citrus/apricot hop hum to finish. A little too balanced in favour of the malts (despite the variety of hops put into it), but very enjoyable. Put me in mind of Porterhouse’s “Brainblasta”, which is no bad thing, but that comparison may be off (and either way, this has way more hops in it). Feels more like a 7%-er than 8.4%, which is arguably quite a good thing.

On tap it has an amber color with a medium head. Aroma of tropical fruits and some malts. Taste has some hops, pine and some resin. Beer falls a bit flat for me.

Flarra. Svag doft lite frukt o lite metall. Smaken hyfsad men något tunn. Det finns frukt o lite gräs men för lite. Det bästa med ölen är faktist efterbeskan som är bra balanserad med lång eftersmak.

On tap at Harry’s Seafood in Wilmington DE. Clear pale gold with a one-finger off-white head and nice lace. Aromas of earth, tea, biscuit, pine and pear. Woodsy flavors including earthy hops and leaf, bready malts, pepper and pine notes. medium body, moderate carbonation, creamy mouthfeel and a crisp hoppy finish.

Bottle from Bruisin’ Ales. Nice citrus aroma with pine notes. Citrus and resin taste with caramalt. Sweet with moderately bitter finish.

Citrus pine aroma in a golden amber pour. A nicely balanced brew with the hops and malts in perfect harmony. Finish is the same - and decidedly ’moreish’.
