We brew our beer in New York, about halfway between the hop fields of the Pacific Northwest and the hop fields of Kent, England. So we use earthy English hops to build the foundation and bright citrusy American hops to bring the noise in the rambunctious IPA we call BLAST! British Maris Otter and German Pilsner malts lends solidity, balance and bready flavors to brace up a beer thatís beautifully hoppy, strangely quaffable and oddly compelling. Minerally hop bitterness is followed by a shock wave of flavor and aroma. You wonít even know what hit you.

Malts: Scottish Floor-malted Maris Otter, German Pilsner Malt

Hops: Willamette, Magnum, Cascade, Fuggle, Aurora, Zythos, Bravo, Simcoe, Sorachi Ace, Amarillo, Experiment 6300

Draft. Cloudy gold color. Citrus aroma is heavy. Very nice taste. Lots of bitterness but in a good way. It doesn't hang around on your palate forever. I am enjoying this a lot. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Citrus, piney hop nose, nice tropicals, light honey. Taste is lightly sweet and strangely lightly bitter, some citrus, light honey, a touch of honey. Not much of a DIPA. Thin body.

Tap at CK. Pours clear orange with small head formation. Nose is tropical melon and small diacetyl. Acetone and white alcohol comes through with hints of vanilla extract. Taste is boozy, sharper, oily. No diacetyl. Some thicker toffee. Nice enough. Still, itís a sticky and oily DIPA. Acetone is unfortunate. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Churchkey, DC tap ($7): Pours a copper colour with a white head. Aroma is really fruity, with a sugary malt backbone. Taste is very hop forward, but not very bitter. The hops are really citrusy and have a few layers of additional complexity. Malt backbone is nice and provides a nice balance to the hops. Mouth feel is perfectly good for the style and allows for rapid drinking as well as sipping. Overall, this was a good DIPA, although it donít reinvent no wheel.

(draught) medium deep gold, lasting film of offwhite bubbles. Nose of biscuit, floral, citrusy (lime and orange), and light medicinal notes. Taste of bread, sweet citrus, lightly bitter citrus oils, medium thick body and some alcohol heat in the finish. Sweet caramel finish.
