We brew our beer in New York, about halfway between the hop fields of the Pacific Northwest and the hop fields of Kent, England. So we use earthy English hops to build the foundation and bright citrusy American hops to bring the noise in the rambunctious IPA we call BLAST! British Maris Otter and German Pilsner malts lends solidity, balance and bready flavors to brace up a beer thatís beautifully hoppy, strangely quaffable and oddly compelling. Minerally hop bitterness is followed by a shock wave of flavor and aroma. You wonít even know what hit you.

2011-12-03. Crisp dark orange amber body with a small beige head that fades. 3+ Lovely citrusy hops on first sips persist throughout, gaining a good amount of alcohol as well, not burning but noticeable. Sweet undercurrents, sweet orange notes. 7+ Aroma is a bit muted at first, the beer is a bit col, modest sweet citrus and light alcohol. Sweet orange, very mild orange seeds. Tropical fruit touches as it warms up. 7+ Smooth medium to full bodied palate is lightly carbonated. 3+ Pretty nice double IPA, nice citrus. Tap at Coles, Buffalo

UPDATED: JUL 17, 2012 Very good on tap. Pours hazy golden colour and holds a foamy white head. Good strong aroma of pine and floral hops. Tastes a little sweet and not much bitter, a very smooth drink that hides the 9% alcohol content very well.

Draft at Rattle with Andrew and Dubra. Pours an amber body with no head, some minor lacing. Aroma is fresh citrus and pine, a nice balance between the two top hop noses - neither one over dominated by the other. Mouthfeel is average, with similar notes of pine and citrus hops in the flavor. This is a really solid IIPA, nothing incredible, but a great beer nonetheless.

Nice golden color with a thin full head. Neither the hops nor citrus particularly stand out, a well balanced offering.

UPDATED: APR 22, 2012 1st time I had this at the brewery ~2 years ago I would have given it a higher score probably. This last tasting from this summer on draft at Bruekelen Bier Merchents down the street from he brewery wasnít quite as overwhelmingly awesome...though it was still damn good. Maybe it is just experience but I donít think so. Anyway, Huge floral and tropical (orange and mango) hop dimensions as well as pine resin and grapefruit. Medium body which is very sweet and plenty bitter with the later character of the nose. Astringent finish.

On Tap at Vine and Barley, Color is a amber hue with decent head retention. Im not getting a lot in the nose. There are some hop notes but not a lot. Taste is nice with a good amount grapefruit. I didnít think this beer was still being brewed so I wonder how old it is because the hop profile seemed lighter than than when I had it a year ago.

UPDATED: MAR 24, 2012 On tap at Good Beer. Piney aroma. This is an astringent, resiny IPA, but it feels a bit thin. Pretty dry and woody, with a nice autumnal feel, making it appropriate for the beginning of autumn. A little orange peel and some sharp hops. It is hard to believe the ABV is over 8. This seems like a regular good IPA to me. If this is Mr. Oliverís killer IPA, then Iím still not a convert.

Poured golden with a quickly dissipating thin head. Aroma was pine needles and sweet malt. Flavor was too malty for my taste for an IPA. I just really donít see all the fuse over Brooklyn brewery. Pretty below average in my opinion.
