COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We brew our beer in New York, about halfway between the hop fields of the Pacific Northwest and the hop fields of Kent, England. So we use earthy English hops to build the foundation and bright citrusy American hops to bring the noise in the rambunctious IPA we call BLAST! British Maris Otter and German Pilsner malts lends solidity, balance and bready flavors to brace up a beer that’s beautifully hoppy, strangely quaffable and oddly compelling. Minerally hop bitterness is followed by a shock wave of flavor and aroma. You won’t even know what hit you.

Malts: Scottish Floor-malted Maris Otter, German Pilsner Malt

Hops: Willamette, Magnum, Cascade, Fuggle, Aurora, Zythos, Bravo, Simcoe, Sorachi Ace, Amarillo, Experiment 6300

Bottle from Five Points Bottle Shop (Atlanta Highway). Tropical fruit nose, with severe caramel notes and strong, pungent, fresh hops. Hazy, moody orange/straw color and sticky lace. Big caramel right up front, minerally, with spicy citrusy hopping. Caramel reemerges in mid palate. Then some overripe dates. Then a form of balance, and the hopping carries us out on a stretcher. Almost perfect blend of UK and West Coast. Great!

Thanks to iNBe. Somewhere in between a strong English ale and a DIPA, I think it really got the best of both worlds, the hop mix is very tasty, a little citrus and also grassy. Lots of malt but still bright flavored. Bready a little boozey at the end and minerally. Serving: Bottle

Excited to try this beer...and even moreso after seeing other reviews. What am I missing? It doesn’t taste like a double. It just tastes like an average IPA. It is not bad, but there is nothing that is striking about it. It is decent...that is all I got.

Bottle at home. Pours lightly hazy orange with a medium, frothy off-white head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is mango, peach and floral hops, biscuit malt, pear and apple esters. Flavor is moderate hops and bitterness, supporting sweet malt, fruity esters and a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.

Bottle at Cafe Sara, april 30th 2014. Dark orange body, medium white head. Aroma is grassy with grapefruit, malt and pine. Taste is quite malty and sweet, with grass, pine, earth. High sweetness, medium bitterness, rich caramel and hop finish. Feels a bit too sweet and sticky for me.

355 ML bottle 8.4 ABV Orange amber color. Thin layer of white film. Nose is peach, apricot, and stone fruit. No real stark bitterness but a nice bouquet of fruit. Taste is grainy bitterness. More chewy than western US DIPA’s. Grapefruit, orange and pine in the taste. Just subtle malt body. Lots of straw in the body. A bit thin for the style and some prickly carbonation. Better ad a bigger IPA

Tasted on tap at Whole Foods in Chicago. It poured a hazy amber hue with a frothy off white head and streaky lacing. Apricot hop aroma and a solid hop taste.

Bottle. Pale amber with an inch of white head. Hoppy aroma, but ethereally so for this kind of thing - floral and zesty citrus (mandarin, grapefruit), peach, honeyed hay. Medium bodied, a little creamy. Hay, peach - no caramel - floaty floral and citrus notes. Some pineapple. Dry with insistent bitterness. Some pine as well as citrus (bitter orange, lime leaf) in the long finish. Fine drop - comes across as determined to show that you can do a big hoppy pale ale and class it up a bit. And succeeds.

Pours a clear light rust orange. A pine and citrus hop aroma. Taste is a mix of citrus hops, pine, and a some floral. A strong bitter hop aftertaste.
