COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We brew our beer in New York, about halfway between the hop fields of the Pacific Northwest and the hop fields of Kent, England. So we use earthy English hops to build the foundation and bright citrusy American hops to bring the noise in the rambunctious IPA we call BLAST! British Maris Otter and German Pilsner malts lends solidity, balance and bready flavors to brace up a beer that’s beautifully hoppy, strangely quaffable and oddly compelling. Minerally hop bitterness is followed by a shock wave of flavor and aroma. You won’t even know what hit you.

Malts: Scottish Floor-malted Maris Otter, German Pilsner Malt

Hops: Willamette, Magnum, Cascade, Fuggle, Aurora, Zythos, Bravo, Simcoe, Sorachi Ace, Amarillo, Experiment 6300

Draught at bar. Reddish color, white head. Super hoppy taste with caramel, citrus, some roastiness and dry bitter finish. Excellent DIPA.

That’s a nice DIPA - good balance of flavour and power without straying into wincing levels of alcohol. Colour is somewhere between amber and burnt orange, with just a hint of white head. Medium to full body, with a lively mouthfeel. Pine and citrus aroma. Plenty of fruit in the taste - pineapple, orange apricot - with a touch of caramel and a strong, but not overpowering, bitter finish.

Some piwos are fine, some are more than that. This one is a great example how to make a little bit stronger IPA with some hops and citrus fruits combing with the high drinkability of a decent Helles piwo which is just going to run down your throat. The is balance, quaffness, reall joy for tongue and belly. Still wondering how fast I drank that one and how much it made me feel just fine and satisfied.

Bottle from Rudat in Dortmund. The beer has got a deep amber-orange colour with an steady big head and smooth body. Aroma of pine, hops and citrus fruits. Taste of intense and gentle bitter hops, pine, spruce, citrus fruits, apricots and herbs. Hints of wheat and bread. Floral-bitter finish withherbal notes. Smooth to drink, yet nothing very exciting.

UPDATED: JAN 23, 2015 Update: had this one a second time, with another one shared by a beer buddy. Whatever I had eaten / drank before the previous try must have tainted this beer a bit, because I like this a lot more now. It’s definitely different, seemingly from the mix of malts and hops, but good. Hmmm....this is a unique DIPA. Aroma is earthy, grassy. Taste is really odd at first, with an odd herbal/earthy/grassy thing working, and then citrus hops following and a decent malt sweetness. After several sips, the odd herbal things seems to fade away, with the citrus being more prevalent. It’s decent, but I won’t be a repeat customer for this one.

Rich, super hazy, deep copper and orange coloured body with a very thin, fast-dying tan head. Bright aroma of grapefruit hops, alcohol, malt and some grassy notes. Medium-bodied; Deep alcohol and bitterness from the hops with a lot of earthy malt, grass and even some apricot flavours along with the pungent grapefruit and cascade hops. Aftertaste shows a pleasant bitterness with a good balance of deep malt and a nice grassy and herbal note with some solid complexity throughout. Overall, a nice Imperial IPA with some good flavours and a pleasant balance along the way. Definitely nice to try and a solid addition to the Brooklyn lineup. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Fairfax, Virginia on 15-November-2014 for US$2,49 sampled at home in Washington on 30-December-2014.
