The woman working the taps at the brewery called this an "experimental" brew that was "kind of like an IPA, but with eight percent alcohol" - I figured entering it as an american strong ale was a safe bet - aroma of hops and cotton candy - a hint of wood - quite a woody flavor, with not nearly as many hops as I expected - a lot of background, candy-like sweetness (perhaps some belgian sugars and/or yeast were used in this) - sweetness eventually disappears, and a very gentle, almost tart characteristic arrives on the palate, complimenting what little hops remain - not too bad, but not very well-defined or "stand-out" either.

UPDATED: MAR 24, 2012 On tap at Good Beer. Piney aroma. This is an astringent, resiny IPA, but it feels a bit thin. Pretty dry and woody, with a nice autumnal feel, making it appropriate for the beginning of autumn. A little orange peel and some sharp hops. It is hard to believe the ABV is over 8. This seems like a regular good IPA to me. If this is Mr. Oliver’s killer IPA, then I’m still not a convert.

Drank on tap at the Brooklyn Brewery with Tim Dziubek.
Blast is a hazy yellow ale with a developed off-white head. The aroma is full of bitter hops and the flavor has notes of citrus. This beer was more bitter than I was looking for and would have been more enjoyable with food.

Poured golden with a quickly dissipating thin head. Aroma was pine needles and sweet malt. Flavor was too malty for my taste for an IPA. I just really don’t see all the fuse over Brooklyn brewery. Pretty below average in my opinion.

Had it from draft. Golden colour, a bit hazy. Nice white creamy head. Really hoppy and long finish. One of the better beers from Brooklyn Brewery.

I had on draft into a tulip at Local Option...Gold appearance and light white head...The aroma is blast of floral citrus, but the majority is the floral, almost too much, I need a break from the perfume...The taste is more of the same to me a floral citrus blend that I just do not care for, too strong.
Unless you love floral hops, its not for you.

Great taste up front but kind of fizzles at the end. Very drinkable and I’ll definitely drink again just feel like there could have been more.

The nose is fantastic on this beer, though the taste does not quite live up...it’s still a fantastic ipa. The head disappears a little quick. The mouthfeel is what you would expect from a bold ipa. Taste includes notes of grapefruit with a hint of floral.
