We brew our beer in New York, about halfway between the hop fields of the Pacific Northwest and the hop fields of Kent, England. So we use earthy English hops to build the foundation and bright citrusy American hops to bring the noise in the rambunctious IPA we call BLAST! British Maris Otter and German Pilsner malts lends solidity, balance and bready flavors to brace up a beer that’s beautifully hoppy, strangely quaffable and oddly compelling. Minerally hop bitterness is followed by a shock wave of flavor and aroma. You won’t even know what hit you.

Malts: Scottish Floor-malted Maris Otter, German Pilsner Malt

Hops: Willamette, Magnum, Cascade, Fuggle, Aurora, Zythos, Bravo, Simcoe, Sorachi Ace, Amarillo, Experiment 6300

Draft at Capital Grille in Fredricksburg, VA. Pours a hazy orange with an off white head. Aroma of citrusy hops. Medium bodied but a tad lighter on the mouthfeel. Pale malts take a back seat to a simple tangerine and grapefruity bitterness. Simple but good. My notes are not very detailed on this one.

Tap. Moderate malt aroma of roasted, heavy hop smells of pine, citrus peel and herbs, light soap for the yeast, and hints of date and alcohol. Head is frothy/fizzy, white, with good sticky lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is slightly hazy amber/orange. Flavor starts moderately sweet and acidic, then the long finish is moderately acidic and heavily bitter. Palate is medium, oily with a lively carbonation and a moderately alcoholic finish. The flavor is just okay, but the hop profile is superb in the aroma of this DIPA.

Cask Festival at Chelsea Pier. The pour was a hazy orange color. The Aroma was nice, peaches, grapefruit, other citrus, excellent. The flavor was citrus, grapefruit, caramel, toffee, excellenrt balance between sweet and bitter. The finish was a rsiny hop flavor not noticeable previously. Medium mouthfeel, thin for the style. Very Good overall.

Chelsea Cask Festival: Pours slight cloudy, yellow copper/ orange amber. Strong nose of young fruits and citrus, slightly metallic. The fruits and citrus come back in the taste enhanced with warming esters. The hops are much more noticeable on the finish... a very surprising and complex brew, changing from front to back. Would really like to try this on tap as well.

On tap at Taco Mac Metropolis in Atlanta. Pours a cloudy, pale golden-orange colored body with a finger-width, creamy, white head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is sweeter citrus with pineapples and tangerines. Lots of fresh florals with some pine and a light herbal spice. Sweeter caramels with a light candy. Flavor is similar. Sweet caramels with some candy and bread balance nicely with a good amount of citrus pines and florals. Lots of sweet oranges, pineapples, and tangerines with a few tropical fruits too. Finishes with a light resin and residual sweetness as this dries with a moderate, piney and floral bitterness as well as a hint of earthy spice. Leaves a lengthy aftertaste following a medium, creamy body and light carbonation. Overall, a nice DIPA. Lots of fresh, sweeter hops with a solid balance. Easy drinking and enjoyable.

[4171-20111203] Tap. Grassy pine resin hops aroma. Slightly hazy, light orange body with a quick foamy off-white head. Light bitter resin hops flavour has a grassy bed of pine needles base. Medium body. Tasty, repeatable. (7/3/8/3/16) 3.7

Draft at The Square Pub in Decatur. Pours light orange.  Floral aroma.  Sweet flavor, too sweet.  Weird IIPA.  Decent but not what I was expecting.  Minimal hop bite for IIPA.

Scopey (8455) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAR 29, 2012
Keg at Evening Star, Brighton. It pours hazy orange-amber, with a long-lasting thick off-white head. The nose is sweet orange, tangerine, apricot, peach, white grape and sweaty socks. The taste is orange, clementine, marmalade, white grape, pine and resin, with bitterness in the finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Well balanced and easy drinking. Good Stuff.

TEJA (1535) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - APR 29, 2012
Draught at Akkurat, Stockholm when Oliwer Garret was there. Lasting off white head and litle clowdy appearance. Big but balanced bitterness. Big lemon hop taste (could be Citra hops). Big body that balance the bitterness.Very enoyable.

On tap at Akkurat during Brooklyn tap takeover, April 27, 2012. Slightly hazy orange with a small white head. Nice hoppy aroma, perfume and grape. This beer felt balanced, sweet but not extremely bitter or hoppy. I enjoyed it!
