COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We brew our beer in New York, about halfway between the hop fields of the Pacific Northwest and the hop fields of Kent, England. So we use earthy English hops to build the foundation and bright citrusy American hops to bring the noise in the rambunctious IPA we call BLAST! British Maris Otter and German Pilsner malts lends solidity, balance and bready flavors to brace up a beer that’s beautifully hoppy, strangely quaffable and oddly compelling. Minerally hop bitterness is followed by a shock wave of flavor and aroma. You won’t even know what hit you.

Malts: Scottish Floor-malted Maris Otter, German Pilsner Malt

Hops: Willamette, Magnum, Cascade, Fuggle, Aurora, Zythos, Bravo, Simcoe, Sorachi Ace, Amarillo, Experiment 6300

Nice amber color with small white head and amazing clean lacing. Aroma and flavor had light citrus notes and light bitter hops. Good overall, balanced, but a little boring. Still a good drink

Draught at Mother Kelly’s, Bethnal Green on 17 Oct. Poured a hazy, light amber, with a dense white head. Aroma of caramel, floral hops and lychee. Toffee sweetness in the flavour, with some grain and grassy hop. Finish was spruce, brown sugar and biscuity malt.

Keg at the Bottle Shop, Bermondsey, on my 40th crawl 11/10/14. Lightly hazed golden orange with a decent beige covering that retains well. Nose is caramel malt, bread dough, spice, bitter orange, light tropicana. Taste comprises bitter tropicals, light pine, orange pith, grapefruit, caramel malt, mandarin, candied fruit peel. Medium + body, fine carbonation, lightly warming booze in the close. Ok DIPA, hides the ABV fairly well, not one I’d rush back to though - kind of a safe bet offering, this Bois prefers more hoppage!

Transfer from BA review on 2-17-14- Poured from bottle into a snifter Appearance – The beer pours a clear light copper color with a one finger head of a fizzy white foam. The head has a light level retention fading moderately quickly and leaving a light level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – A nice mix of tropical fruit sweetness and hops are the bulk of the aroma. The tropical fruits are a blend of pineapple, mango and tangerine with the hop being largest of a pine aroma but also containing a rather strong and balancing grapefruit and earthy hop smell as well. With a little bit of caramel and a bready aroma rounding out the smell, a very balanced and pleasant sweeter double IPA aroma is created. Taste – The taste begins rather bready and sweet with some flavors of tropical fruits. The tropical fruit flavors are heaviest of a tangerine and mango flavor with some hints of a caramel sweetness present within there as well. Right at the start, the hops are on the lighter side being mostly of a pine and earthy flavor. As the taste advances however, the fruit flavors and the caramel begin losing ground with a grapefruit and lemon hop taking their place and becoming more and more potent as the taste moves to its end. Along with the grapefruit growing more intense, so too does the pine and earth hop tastes, which in the end, leave a slightly drier and moderately hopped and balanced bitter-sweet, crisper taste to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the average side for an 8.4 % abv. brew with a carbonation level that is on the average side as well. While the average carbonation was rather nice for making the beer rather refreshing and for complimenting the drier flavors of the brew encountered at the end of the taste, a slightly thicker body would have likely been nicer for the blend of hop flavors present throughout the taste. All in all however, the feel was decent. Overall – A rather pleasant drinking double IPA with a fairly nice blend of hop flavors. One well worth trying.

On Tap at the Brooklyn Brewery. A high alcohol content strong malty flavor. It’s like if you mixed an IPA with their Oktoberfest. Nice fragrant aroma but tastewise the hops didn’t really stand out to me as I had hoped. Medium bodied and easy to drink. It has a caramel sweetness on the palate that also has hints of a sweet fruitiness. A nice interesting experiment from the Brooklyn Brewery that’s definately worth trying.

Growler pour. Dark golden/orange. Almost no head. Nose has orange peels and some sweet malts, caramel. Taste has some caramel sweetness and zippy citrus hops. Mild bitterness. Body is medium. Drinkable for 9%. Balanced.

Keg at bottle shop. Aroma is spicy, resin piney, orange peel jam. Clear golden orange with a lasting thin white head. Flavour is resin, spicy hop, resin, jammy orange. Hides the abv very well. Palate is semi sweet, highish crisp carbonation.

Very rich beer. Heavy on the alcohol and a surprising amount of residual sweetness. Thick mouthfeel. Not my favorite.

Keg in the Head of Steam, Durham. Pours hazy golden with a white head. Starts with loads of juicy tropical fruit flavour and a hint of spice before a pleasant bitter finish. Very tasty and refreshing.
