Bottled. Big rocky thick-bubbled head, long-lasting with some lacing. A lovely pint. Nose is rather weak; expected hazelnut notes, no hops, soft sweet malt. Flavor mostly sweet, a little bit of creeping sourness though, medium body, overall just not exciting or interesting in any way. Some chocolate, some nuts; just not a lot, nothing overpowering or even sit-up-and-take-notice. Ehhhh.

UPDATED: FEB 22, 2003 Clear, deep copper/red. Nice head and decent lace. Complex nose of chocolate, almonds, caramel, bit of hop acidity, pine, perfume and a flourish of mild malts. Something else in aroma i cant place. Nice medium-full, creamy body. Tasty, rich and deep malts, caramel, chocolate on the the palate making it a moderatly sweet tasting beer. The perfect amount of hops make this a very good and balanced brew. And for $6 a sixer, economically feasible as well:-) Must let this badboy warm up.

Clear amber with deep copper hues. Brown it ain’t. Small, tightly packed tan foam. Easy carbonation. Aroma of bread dough, chocolate, caramel and wisps of grass and pine. Initially light and delicate. Moderately carbonated mouthfeel. Nicely malted with deep notes of chocolate, caramel, dark bread and hints of astringent roasted malts. Medium body. Hops build after the sip and through to the malty aftertaste. Solid resinous hop burps are surprising. Caramelized sweetness is handily balanced. Finishes hoppier with grass and pine notes intermingling with toffee coated walnut skins. Solid version, though on draft the hoppiness is more explosive.

UPDATED: MAR 9, 2005 browness... Head sat thin w/ two eye-like bubbles staring into my eyes... Aroma sung in fruity tones and nut-like..a tad of cherry & a tad of alcohol... great hop intro transforming to fruity & roasty nuts..nuts in cherry sauce..this actually tastes a tad bit like some barley wines I have had of late?? anyway..I think it has a grand complexity for a brown ale..and the next thing I knew was that my glass was empty..and I only bought 1 12oz..I’m out of town..and will never be able to get this for a long time..I’m sad

Sweet and malty aroma. Flavor is malty with a bitter finish (very very slight rubber band flavor at the finish). Highly carbonated. Dark amber in color.

This is another very solid brown ale. A little on the dark side for a brown ale, but good flavor and texture make it a great 1st beer.
