COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brooklyn Brown Ale, made exclusively with American ingredients, won Bronze medals at the Great American Beer Festival in the Strong Ale Category in 1991 and in the American Brown Ale Category in 1992. Brooklyn Brown uses pale, crystal, chocolate, and black malts to attain a complex creamy texture. It is more heavily hopped than its British forbears.

Bottle pours a deep ruby color, small beige creamy head, with spotty lacing.   Butterscotch and bready on the nose.   Sweet malts, slightly candyish, and bready in the flavor.   Medium body and mouthfeel.   Finishes with a quick burnt sugar type sweetness, but it fades into a minor sourness.   Not bad, but nothing exceptional in my book.

Clear-ish dark brown. Light brown finger of foam. Sweet, roasty, lightly smokey(?) aroma of caramel, chocolate, licorice, & nuts. Medium feel. Nicely balanced, roasted malt flavour.

A very sweet, malty brown ale. Very "sniffable" brew: nice chocolate and spice aroma. Flavor had notes of chocolate, caramel, nuts, and some light citric hoppienss. Very enjoyable if you’re a "maltophile."

Hops and chocolate nose, some malt as well. Chestnut, a slight toffee head. Very woody taste, some malt and almonds. Light bodied, bitter. Decent.

Buffalo Brewfest 04. Very dark brown colour. Slight nuttiness in aroma and taste. Lots of creamy malt as well. Nothing spectacular here, just a very good solid brown ale.

Tap. A fair brown ale. Chocolate and nutty notes in the aroma. Body was a bit thin. Hopping was more than expected.

It’s from Brooklyn so I wanted to give this great scores. Couldn’t do it. The aroma was sweet, caramel, nutty. Yet there was a very unusual hint to the nose. The flavor was off. Sour and bitter with an unusual finish. Something just didn’t seem right. Expected better.

UPDATED: NOV 7, 2004 Great Brown ale! Pours a nice reddish dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is nutty and malty. Taste is of nuts, toffee, roastiness, caramel, with a hint of chocolate. Moderately sweet, has a good hop presence. Mouthfeel is very full and round. Nice lacing and head retention.
