Brooklyn Brown Ale, made exclusively with American ingredients, won Bronze medals at the Great American Beer Festival in the Strong Ale Category in 1991 and in the American Brown Ale Category in 1992. Brooklyn Brown uses pale, crystal, chocolate, and black malts to attain a complex creamy texture. It is more heavily hopped than its British forbears.

On tap: Aroma is nutty with some chocolate and light citrus hops. Dark amber with a small white head. Chocolate, caramel, and roasted nuts up front with a light citrus hopped finish. Not a brown ale fan, but this was rather tastey.

Looks good and dark. Smells malty and strong. Tastes like roasted and chocolate barley but it just fades into nothingness. The taste starts so well and finishes so weak. As for the style, I like this beer the best. Maybe it is the style that I am not so thrilled about.

Pours a medium dark amber color. Aromas of caramel, floral, and maybe a hint of fruit. Flavors of floral, sweet malts, and some mild hop bitterness towards the end.

UPDATED: MAY 8, 2006 out of the bottle pours a beautiful cherry wood hue, but unfortunately is not complimented by as nice a head. a fizzy bubbly cream-tan head that is minimal to none. first impressions are that it tasted WEAK and that I expected more. Sour cherries, plum and butternut. Has a viscous, greasy palate and texture that is uncomfortable and gross. Aftertaste is like a dirty, yucky nut.

UPDATED: MAR 4, 2009 Red brown, with a disappearing tan head. Fruity aroma, citrus hops with plum and port. Sweet malty flavour with some chocolate and coffee, and plenty of hop flavour and bitterness. Gave me a rather Belgian impression.

UPDATED: JUN 1, 2006 Cask conditioned at Oliver Twist, Stockholm. Clear dark brown. Evident roasty malt aroma. Medium sweet with rounded mouthfeel and firm malt character. Itís dominated by the roasty malt, but there are hints of licorice and perfumy hops as well. Medium bitterness.

In all fairness to the fine folk at Brooklyn Brewery; this bottle was designated to be best enjoyed on or before 11/05. I would love to try a fresh sample, but Iíve got to work with what Iíve got. Splendid nose of dried fruit and flowers; however, it drops off quickly as the brew breathes. The brew pours a clear garnet. The frothy bone head is mostly diminishing with fair lace. It is the LOUDEST head Iíve ever encountered, sounding like a bowl of rice crispies. Iím not making that up. This brew is very well balanced if not terribly complex, and would make a very noble session offering. The light fizzy body is very dry.

(DíAgostinoís, NYC) Smooth beer. Slight wooden flavor with a coffee aftertaste. If it werenít for the coffee, Iíd really like it.

a sim rate: (bottled from DíAgostinoís NYC) Lovely piney, wooden aroma. Chocolate and cinnamon in there too. Flavour is full with licquorice, coffee and a hint of dark chocolate. Itís got a citrus kick right at the end and a fantastic full aftertaste. I loved it.

On draft at Just Sports with Stegosaurus. This beer poured dark, and had a decent aroma, good head, the taste was good, i thought it was a little watery, but it is a good beer.
