doubleo (1096), San Diego, California, USA Oct 11, 2009 Pours clearish brown with a thin offwhite head, no lace. Smells light and nutty. Tastes nutty and sweet, slightly metallic. Thin body, good carbonation. benpickens (129), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Oct 1, 2009 Pours with a nice ample head. Mildly sweet with a light hop hit. Decent brown ale but I enjoy Dogfish head’s hoppier version... andyhwcinc (35), Illinois, USA Sep 30, 2009 I was pretty surprised when I poured this out, for a brown ale this has the color and taste of a porter. I can definitely notice the coffee in this ale, but as a previous review suggested, this is lighter than it looks. I’m typically not a fan of Brown Ales, but I’ll definitely come back to this one. pineypower (1077), Pine Barrens, New Jersey, USA Sep 24, 2009 Bottle thanks to Dmac. Pours out a nice somewhat clear light brown color with a fading white head. Aroma is of sweet malts, light chocolate and a note of bitterness. Taste is well balanced, sweet malt notes, light chocolate, and a little bitterness hanging in there also. Overall an enjoyable brown ale. crisp500 (14), New York, USA Sep 24, 2009 pours a brownish/maroonish color with a head that becomes nonexistent in a few seconds. smells of chocolate, almonds, and a little spice. tastes pretty much the same. this is a consistent beer. i highly recommend. beernbourbon (236), chicago, Illinois, USA Sep 23, 2009 On tap at Hidive. Pour is clear light brown with a small white head. Aroma is malty, sweet and lightly hoppy. Flavor is light malt, toffee, and a crisp hop finish. Nice, could drink a few of these. The crisp hoppy finish saves it for me, otherwise I think it would have been unbalanced. Cole (270), , Alberta, Canada Sep 23, 2009 The great pretender. The English brown basterdized by American brewers. Now despite this attempt to shamelessly Americanize a classic English style I must say that it was pretty good. Sharp hoppy aroma, nice brown colour, some chocolate flavour slightly bitter. Like I said, not bad, but I like my English ale made with English hoppy and yeast. guyinchicago (516), marengo, Illinois, USA Sep 20, 2009 Poured a meduim brown with a reddish hue and whippy tan head aromas are of malts, coffee, chocolate, and hops flavor is of the same with a sweet caramel base that finish slightly bitter not bad
