COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brooklyn Brown Ale, made exclusively with American ingredients, won Bronze medals at the Great American Beer Festival in the Strong Ale Category in 1991 and in the American Brown Ale Category in 1992. Brooklyn Brown uses pale, crystal, chocolate, and black malts to attain a complex creamy texture. It is more heavily hopped than its British forbears.

Poured into a pint glass. 3.5 A: Dark brown. Hard to see through, but it is indeed quite clear. Poor to average head retention and minimal lacing. 3.5 S: Big nutty aroma. Dark caramel malts. Not much else. 3.5 T: Nut flavor dominates. Surprisingly not much sweetness as it has a minimal amount of caramel flavor. Good balance, though hop character does not distiguish itself much. 3.5 M: Medium body, good carbonation, but not as creamy as I’d like. 4.0 D: Not bad, sessionable, and no major weaknesses. Problem is that there are also no major strengths. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 12-10-2008 00:33:15

Pours a dark dark brown body with lots of tiny sediments and a quite thin little lacing head. Aroma has lots of roasted malts, liquorish. Actually reminded me somewhat of Mikkeller beer geek bacon. Extremely carbonated and medium bodied. Smokey, wood and dark coffee with a fade liquorish finish. Great brown ale!

Poured nice mahagony out of 12oz bottle - I’m not going to pretend to be overwhelmed with this one from Brooklyn. Lightly carbonated, little or no retention. Sweet with a bit of unpleasant bitterness. Overall, a good session beer.

Beautiful brown color. Bold roasted flavors with a hint of sweetened chocolate. Hoppier than most brown ales.

12 oz. bottle. Dark brown pour with moderate tan head. Nice malty aroma. Was not expecting the heavy hops in this brown ale. Not bad, but a little too bitter for my tastes.

Dark reddish-brown with a decent off-white head. Aroma of roasted malts, nuts, caramel, and brown sugar. Taste was roasted malt, a little sweet, and a bit of hop bitterness. Body was on the lighter side of medium and smooth. Nice session beer.

355 ml bottle. Clear, very dark brown body with a fine, foamy beige head. Aroma is malt, caramel, chocolate, hops and nuts. Flavor is sweet and soft malty with caramel, smooth and almost creamy, there is some chocolate and hops as well with hints of nuts. Fine and smooth, bitter aftertaste. This is a solid brown ale that should be hard to dislike.

THOUGHTS: Rather simple, but a well made brown ale that tasted like a brown ale should taste — very malty. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, medium to dark, brownish red that was very cola like with an average, off-white head that slowly diminished and left fair lacing. The aroma was moderate to heavy toasted and nutty malts and caramel; slight milk chocolate; and light to moderate hops. The initial flavor was moderately sweet, lightly acidic and slightly sour; while the finish was lightly sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter and sour with an average duration. There was caramel malt, light chocolate, slight maple syrup, nutty malt, slight hops and then hints of apple and cherry. The light to medium body was a bit oily, but sticky on the lips with fizzy carbonation and a slightly metallic and light to moderately astringent finish.
