Now despite this attempt to shamelessly Americanize a classic English style I must say that it was pretty good. Sharp hoppy aroma, nice brown colour, some chocolate flavour slightly bitter. Like I said, not bad, but I like my English ale made with English hoppy and yeast. guyinchicago (526), marengo, Illinois, USA

Hints of chocolate and barley in the nose. Thinner than appearance would suggest. Definitely got chocolate. Very good brown ale. Fratto (704), Arlington, Texas, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Sep 18, 2009 12 oz bottle from EZ. Pours a nice deep red with a large fluffy beige head. Aroma is all malts with some grainy bread and cereal, light chocolate, sweetness and a touch of vinegar. Medium to slightly thinner body with stingy carbonation. Flavor is a slight step up from the aroma with notes of chocolate malts, vinegar, cereal and light honey blended in. Sessionable at only 5.2% and an all around okay beer. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 18, 2009 Bottle. Poured a deep brown, just a couple shades lighter than cola. Nose was big and rich, spicy, sweet, malty, and (surprise!) actually hoppy. Palate was deceptively simple, but very tasty and approachable, but the complexity showed through if you looked for it. A solid beer, from an often underwhelming style. angrybeerman (107), Dublin, Ireland

Was actually brown which I liked as many other brown ales are black. Had a decent head as well. The brown ale had a nice roasted smell. Sweet, malty taste with hints of coffee and caramel. Slightly bitter in the finish but not to bad. A good beer all round.
