BeMerry (37), Fairfax, Virginia, USA Feb 7, 2008 Bottle. Dark reddish brown with little carbonation that produces a small, brief head. Grassy clover aroma. Slightly sour and astringent start adds a little hoppy bitterness and moves to a sweet finish. Mouthfeel a bit flat. Jukkabro (2981), Tampere, Finland Feb 7, 2008 Dark amber colored, little light brown head. Chocolaty aroma, sweetness and berries also here, nice one. Medium bodied. Flavor also starts with chocolate and sweetness, aftertaste turns to nicely hopped and bitter with some berries. Nicely carbonated palate. aracauna (2357), Georgia, USA Jan 31, 2008 How have I not had this before? I had this on cask at the Atlanta Cask Ale Festival. I was a bit surprised by the nuttiness of the malt. Pretty tasty beer. blklab2007 (932), Connecticut, USA Jan 30, 2008 bottle poured a mahogany in color with average carbination and a one finger head of light tan foam melting back to a thin layer with good retention. aroma has chocolate and caramel malt, light roasted coffee, and slight sweetness like molasses. mouth feel is medium light with some creaminess. flavor is malted first with more coffee than in the nose, touch of sweetness, and some faint bitter dark chocolate. again a nice drinking beer from Brooklyn medium on the hardiness scale with a finish that stays strong on the tongue for a minute. mrant (330), New York, USA Jan 28, 2008 Smells of caramel and hos, quickly fading to nothing. Pours a dark ruddy brown with a small bubbly tannish head. Taste is rich roasted malts, caramel and some coffee with a hint of hops. A very nice example of a brown. Hank1980 (734), Athens, Georgia, USA Jan 27, 2008 Tasted at Atlanta Cask Ale fest @ Sweetwater. Pours brown. Aroma of lightly hopped with some chocolate and nutty notes. Taste is also nutty. Cask may make this smoother than normal, but this was very smooth. Nice brew. DWestrick (234), Ft Wayne, Indiana, USA Jan 25, 2008 good brown ale. got pretty much what i hoped for and will try this again as i mature in my tasting process. i can see why people like it santos999 (318), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 24, 2008 In comparison to most brown ales out nowadays, this one is very traditional. Ringwood yeast.. it has to be. The smell is minerally and slight hoppy, with chocolate and coffee undertones. The taste is sulfuric and minerally, not in a bad way though. Very traditional throughout. Rich, bold, and strong tasting, but quaffable as a mother. Chocolate and coffee flavors abound, but are balanced by a long, drawn out bitterness. Very good example of the style.
