COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brooklyn Brown Ale, made exclusively with American ingredients, won Bronze medals at the Great American Beer Festival in the Strong Ale Category in 1991 and in the American Brown Ale Category in 1992. Brooklyn Brown uses pale, crystal, chocolate, and black malts to attain a complex creamy texture. It is more heavily hopped than its British forbears.

351 mL bottle. Opaque chestnut brown with just a ring of head. Aroma of walnuts, brown sugar and oxo cubes. Flavour has . The flavour starts very full up front, before thinning out a little on the back end. It has burnt caramel, dates, nuts, and bready malt. Some bitterness in the finish, moreso than most brown ales. Good beer.

brown color, tiny tan bubbles for a head, some lace. aroma of malt, coffee, chocolate. flavor of chocolate, offset by mildly roasty malt and lightly bitter coffee. medium bosied, sweet finish. a typical brown ale, a touch too sweet. the more i drink, the more cloying the sweetness becomes. bottle @ newark airport renaissance hotel.

UPDATED: JAN 26, 2012 Bottle. The pour was a muddy dark brown with an average sized (1-2 finger) light brown foamy head the dissipated slowly and produced decent sticky lacing. The aroma was of a toasted malts, a mild resin hop and a sweet leathery yeast with notes of coffee, molasses, a bit of caramel and a light chocolate. The taste was a malty sweet with ever so light chocolate and caramel notes early on with the latter being bitter and having a strong dose of coffee with a nice hint of hops at the end. The flavor lasted a little longer that average with the hoppy coffee flavor settling nicely on the taste buds. Mouthfeel was smooth and creamy and a tad watery in texture with the body being somewhere around medium and having a moderate carbonation. Overall a really tasty Brown Ale with a slightly sweet bold middle and nice light malty, hoppy finish.

Draft. Brown pour, medium, sticky tan head. Aroma of hops, sweet malt. Flavor of wheat, hops, malt, toast, caramel. Not as full-bodied as I’d like and a bit too much carbonation. Strong flavor compensates for those shortcomings, and overall this is a solid brown ale.

Bottle at MacNiven’s. Pours cherry brown, minimal head. Not a strong nose, but some dark malt and more hops than expected come through. Taste is pretty hopped up for a brown, as is typical from Brooklyn. The hop bite seemed to fade eventually, and smooth, fresh berry malt took over. All in all this was pretty enjoyable, though a little ’empty’ or lacking depth at times.

(12oz bottle) Pours a very dark brown (for the style) with a nice fluffy tan head that sticks around a while. Nose is of toasted sweet malts and nutty. As I taste it I’m realizing this may be oxidized, but still good. Over carbonated though. Taste is of roasted malts, not enough sweetness for a brown ale, an odd lingering on the tongue probably due to the oxidation. I think I will need to re-rate this at some point, but still solid. Hard to discern flavors with oxidation.
