thenick (742), North Bellmore, New York, USA Jul 17, 2007 Pours a nice brown color with a small, slightly off-white head. Aroma is chocolate and malt. Taste is malt up front with a nice chocolate aftertaste. A smooth, mellow beer, and a great brown ale. arjoseph (594), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 17, 2007 On tap into shaker, Clark St Ale House (Chicago). Mostly opaque golden-tinged brown with an initially fluffy tan head that settles into a dusting that covers the top. Sweet like syrup, almost nutty but not really. Any nuttiness is on the back of the tongue right after the swallow and lingering a little in the finish. Definitely a different approach than the Goose Island Hex Nut, which is my favorite brown. Round, vibrant fruitiness defines the malt character. The finish is somewhat smoky, somewhat dry. This is definitely flavorful, and well balanced, and I like the finish, but there’s something about the way it tastes that I just don’t like. Not a knock on the craftmanship, just personal taste. Smells buttery, with hints of diacetyl. AgedOak (74), Ohio, USA Jul 16, 2007 Dark brown pour with a fluffy light tan head that lasts well into the tasting. Aroma of burnt malt, oak and caramel. The taste of roasted malt, caramel, and hints of chocolate come through immediately. This is a very good beer with a nice finishing bitterness. dogfishho (172), Bloomfield, New Jersey, USA Jul 16, 2007 Pours a near-black brown color with a thin whitish head. The aroma was mild, with subtly roasted malts and a bit of molasses. The flavor was also relatively mild for the style, with notes of sweet milk chocolate, mild hops, and roasty malts. The finish was relatively clean and the overall experience was nice. It paired reasonably well with the barbecue that I was eating at the time. Not too bad. Skinnyviking (4142), Copenhagen, Denmark Jul 15, 2007 Bottle. Medium high fluffy and quickly disappearing light brown head. Clear dark red body. Spicy caramel cocoa aroma. Heavily carbonated and hoppy caramel cocoa flavor without the expected sweetness. Long aftertaste. Miksu (2187), Jyväskylä, Finland Jul 13, 2007 0.35 l bottle. Dark reddish brown color with tan head. The aroma of citrusy hops, caramel, toffee, honey and hints of chocolade. Dryish flavor with citrus, chocote, raisins and toffee. Gets more chocolatey towards finish. Drinkable and fairly easy. Light bodied. tomthompson89 (1459), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 11, 2007 nice amber brown color, good head, malty and sweet, some nutts, well done, love brooklyn!!! Suttree (2702), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Jul 8, 2007 Reddish brown, thin tan head. Toasty, dark bread aroma, but very faint. Pumpernickle bread flavor, with a sweet, brown sugar or molasses note. Perhaps atouch of bourbon, too.
