Brooklyn Brown Ale, made exclusively with American ingredients, won Bronze medals at the Great American Beer Festival in the Strong Ale Category in 1991 and in the American Brown Ale Category in 1992. Brooklyn Brown uses pale, crystal, chocolate, and black malts to attain a complex creamy texture. It is more heavily hopped than its British forbears.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, best before March 2013. Pours crystal clear reddish brown color with a nice 1-2 finger dense khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty foamy lacing clings down the glass. Aromas of chocolate, caramel, biscuit, toasted malt, roast, light coffee, toffee, herbal, and light dark fruits. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity. Taste of chocolate, caramel, biscuit, toasted malt, nuttiness, toffee, roast, light coffee, and light herbal spiciness. Slight herbal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, caramel, biscuit, toffee, toast, nuttiness, and light herbal on the finish for a bit. Very nice flavor balance, complexity, and robustness; zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very creamy and lightly slick mouthfeel that is very nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with pretty much zero warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very nice brown ale! Nicely robust and full of balanced flavors; and very smooth to drink. Really enjoyed this one.

Bottle to wine glass Nutmeg, chocolate, toasted malt, grape, yeast. Deep reddish, thin creamy tan head, some bubbles, no effervescence. Lots of malt, nutmeg, a touch of touch.

Pours ruby brown with a nice size tan head. Aroma is of toffee, caramel, leather, and plums. Tastes of toffee, caramel, brown bread, roasted malts, and nuts. Has too much of a light body that is smooth and maybe a little watery. The body kind of ruined it for me.

355ml bottle from Tasty Life Songbai. Pours dark brown with a dissipating off white head. Fruit and caramel aroma. Sweet finish.

Bottle. Dark ruby with little head. Dominated by chocolate, roasted malt and a lot of dark fruit sweetness. Not as balanced as I expected but ok.

Bottle, Clarion Gillet Uppsala. Interesting features, complex aroma. Somewat thin texture, but on the whole pleasant.

Quite complex, a Brown Ale for the ages! Good luck finding a better looking example of the style, this Brooklyn beast is the acme of brownishness with a pulchritudinous light brown head. The smell and the flavour are interwoven inimitably, roast malts, sweet brown sugar, molasses, cigars and nuts. Some bright tart cherry and fruitcake sweetness make the rounds as well. A wonderfully substantial but easy to drink body and mid carbonation round out this beauty’s glory.

---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Sampled at Northgate Tasting. This is a bit sweet and malty, but it’s good for the style.

0.33l bottle poured in a chalice A: Nice clean and dark brown color with a creamy beige head (1 to 2 fingers) dissipates quickly leaving not much lacings but a very nice floral smell of hops S: Toasted malts, roasted nuts, sweet caramel and a lovely floral of hops in the end (which I personally think is very characteristic on Brooklyns) T/M: Again, roasted malts and nuts, sweet caramel which makes it a bit molasses. Very good presence of grassy hops which gives it a moderate bitter end. Medium body and carbonation D: High. Refreshing beer. Good quality beer as expected from a Brooklyn [ BA Review @ 6/3/2010 ]
