I drink it a little more often now, even though lots of local stores suddenly increased the price by $3. I can imagine having a bottle of it with a slice of pecan pie, as the chocolate hints would go well with the pecans. Duffbeer (192), Pennsylvania, USA

Creamy hints of chocolate. Strong coffee. Sweet, sweet finish. Appearance: poured a dark brown color with an off-white to tan colored head about 1/2 a finger thick that was retained. Mild lacing left on pint glass throughout.
Smell: caramel sweetness with a hint of nuttiness - very pleasant.
Taste/Mouthfeel: a nice balance of pale, crystal, chocolate, and black malts gives it a sweet caramel flavor on the tongue followed by a nutty, slightly bitter taste at the back of the mouth. According to the description from Brooklyn Brewery, this beer is more heavily hopped than its British forbears. However, the hops are not overwhelming but give the beer a balanced flavor. Medium body with light-to-medium carbonation.
Drinkability: I was pleasantly surprised with this beer. Many of the brown ales that I’ve previously tasted didn’t meet my expectations. However, this is definitely a good tasting, full-flavored American Brown Ale! I can definitely enjoy a few pints of this beer on a cool autumn evening!

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this fine brew pours a dark brown color with a medium sized tan head. The aroma is sharp with floral hops. The flavor is full of dark malts with a hint of chocolate and solid flowery hops with a undertone of light fruity hops. There is a hoppy and faintly chocolaty finish. An American classic for such a widely available beer in my book. bark (255), Linköping, Sweden
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 22, 2005 Bottle. The colour is wine red with a tint of brown. The pale beige foam forms a finger thick rather compact head.
The smell is strong with fruity notes of sour fruit drops and roasted malt with some sweetness.
The carbonation is very strong with lots of small bubbles that tickled my tongue.
The taste is fruity and a bit sweet with notes of red wine and cherry jam. The aftertaste is dry and hoppy with some bitter notes and a long flavour of red wine and caramel.
A nice blend of a classic English brown ale and American micro-style hops. cazort (421), Newark, Delaware, USA

Complex aroma and flavor: rich, malty, with a little roast...a fair amount of the sort of very coarse, dark, grainy malt that hovers just on the border of being sour without actually being sour. Not very sweet, fairly bitter. This was one of the best brown ales I have ever had, and one of the best beers I’ve ever had. I continue to be impressed with what Brooklyn Brewery has to offer.
