Commercial Description:
Brooklyn Brown Ale, made exclusively with American ingredients, won Bronze medals at the Great American Beer Festival in the Strong Ale Category in 1991 and in the American Brown Ale Category in 1992. Brooklyn Brown uses pale, crystal, chocolate, and black malts to attain a complex creamy texture. It is more heavily hopped than its British forbears.

Bottled. Not much can be said that hasn’t already been touched on. A good beer, but not a new castle.

On tap at Brooklyn brew pub in the Newark airport. Pours out dark brown with minimal head. Hoppy malty aroma that gains more hop strength as it warms up (I hate getting ice cold beer mugs!) Nice smooth taste that becomes much more hoppier as it warms. This is like a cross between an IPA and a brown ale. Of all the Brooklyn beers I have had, i like this the best.

Bottle purchased at Sam’s Wine & Spirits, in Chicago. Pours a deep, clear mahogany with a creamy, rocky, beige head. The nose is a pleasant, roasty, nutty/chocolate aroma. Light to medium-bodied and creamy with a lightly bitter-hopped finish. Roasted, nutty malt with a nice complement of chocolate malt, the flavor finishes with an earthy hop finish and a lingering nutty aftertaste. One of the better brown ales that I’ve sampled, this is one that’s easy to recommend.

Flaske. Rigtig god duft i en flot mørkebrun øl, med et fint skum. Dejligt velhumlet med en lettere brændt smag.

I can go either way with brown’s- like ’em or hate ’em, no in betweens. This one- I LIKED,ALOT! Nice nutty malty aroma, good dark amber/ brown color. Good tan head. Mouthfeel is great for a brown. It has some density, not like some weak brewed versions of brown’s i’ve had. Most importantly, the flavor was really good. Substantial taste, nutty and earthy, coyingly sweet caramel flavor. Good feel and flavor of hops which at times is non-existent in brown ales. Carbonation is just right. If you have a hard time finding a brown you like, I suggest you try this one."

An old-time favorite, rated for the first time on 4/21/08. Bottle.

Appearance: Unassuming, dark-copper brown, very little to no head -- perhaps the fridge was too cold?

Aroma: fresh hops, grass, caramel, and milk chocolatem

Taste: Caramel, toasted malt, mild and pleasant hops, pear, bitter chocolate, and a very light sour bitterness at the very end.

Palate: almost on the cusp of being too "sticky" for my taste, but still on the side of good.

Overall: A great beer -- could be better? Perhaps this foray is revealing that this is a beer best served not too cold. A bit too syrupy on the finish, but otherwise a well-balanced brown ale. Try with homemade french onion soup!

Bottle at 515 in Santa Cruz. Poured into pint glass. Clear brownish red with a finger of tan head that leaves some modest lacing. Aromas of burnt grain and brown sugar. Flavor is sweet, with nutty dark malts. A touch of cocoa and an even smaller touch of hops. Mouthfeel is dry with a little roasty bitterness. Smooth but a little too roasty for my tastes. Good drinkability, solid beer.
