Commercial Description:
Brooklyn Brown Ale, made exclusively with American ingredients, won Bronze medals at the Great American Beer Festival in the Strong Ale Category in 1991 and in the American Brown Ale Category in 1992. Brooklyn Brown uses pale, crystal, chocolate, and black malts to attain a complex creamy texture. It is more heavily hopped than its British forbears.

12oz. bottle - pours very dark brown. Looks almost black sitting on a table, but is a deep and rich brown when it catches the light. Medium mocha head that leaves web-like lacing in the glass. Chocolate, nuts and dark fruit in the aroma with some easily detectable hoppiness. Flavour is sweet and malty with hops coming forward in the finish with brown sugar and fruit dominate, with a mild bitter roastiness in the long finish. Aftertaste of earthy hops. Quite nice. Very drinkable and smooth in the mouth.

Bottle. Has a great crisp brown quality with amber hues and a moderate off white head. The aroma is noticeable right away - sweet fruit punch mixes with weaker coffee malts and nuts for a good blend, some grass funkiness later. Flavor is robust with a good complex mix - starts sweet with cherry notes followed by the arrival of coffee malts and a moderate bitter finish with caramel flavor hanging around also. Good taste and easy feel makes it quite refreshing.

Dark brown pour with a fluffy light tan head that lasts well into the tasting. Aroma of burnt malt, oak and caramel. The taste of roasted malt, caramel, and hints of chocolate come through immediately. This is a very good beer with a nice finishing bitterness.

Bottle. Brown and clear like colour a sparkling look. Initial appearance of head was medium. Aroma was like the Brooklyn Lager and IPA very hop flowery and spicy, yeast in the sniff. Some notes of malty caramel and roasted notes can also be felt. It has some dry catachrestical but not as much as the other two that we could compare it with. Favour was light bitter-sweet. Medium bodied with a light bitter sweet finish. In some ways more balanced between the bitter and sweet notes then the Lager and IPA.

This is exactly what I envision a brown ale should taste like. It is thick, creamy and malty. The ale is nice and hoppy and pours a nice happy brown color. So far, this is my favourite of the Brooklyn beers that I have tried.

Dark reddish brown pour. Choclatey malt flavor with a bit of hops bitterness. A decent everyday beer.

Not enough good browns available in NYC - this one nails the style and is nice and fresh
