savitska (163), Smyrna, Georgia, USA Aug 21, 2005 It looked great, deep reddish-brown, and smelled like heaven, but it was too malty for my tastes. Still a fine, relaxing session beer, but I would have like a more balanced hop-to-malt ratio.
tomer (270), Rishon Le Zion, Israel Jul 4, 2009 .355L bottle, small light quickly diminishing head, clear brown colour with deep red taints, aroma of american hopps with notes of light roasted coffee and some malt.quite dry with the same hoppy traits continuing and a touch of caramel, The finish is also hop dominated and medium long. Too much hops to my liking. beerchugger (216), Colorado, USA Jun 29, 2009 Pours deep brown with thin off-white head. The aroma was fairly weak with not much coming through. The flavor was mostly watery, fairly bland, let alone a lack of character. Finish is lightly bitter. tmoreau (302), Lombard, Illinois, USA Jun 27, 2009 12 oz. bottle trade with neighbor. Poured into my SA "perfect pint" glass a brown color with amber tones showing through the base, a foamy tan head, and clingy patches of lacing. The aroma was roasted malt, sweet grain and caramel. The flavor added to these an appropriate hop bitterness to balance. The body was medium, with lively carbonation, and a clean, crisp mouthfeel. Very nice. Beardface (772), Eugene, Oregon, USA Jun 27, 2009 12 oz beer as an extra in a trade. Dark brown pour with a light tan head. Aroma is mostly caramel and toffee with some light citrus hop. Flavor more of the same, a little bit of bitterness in there as well. Solid beer, would drink again. ben4321 (562), Rockville, Maryland, USA Jun 24, 2009 September 2008 Beer of the Month Club (Though I had had this one before)
Overall Impression:
Here is my review from the September tasting: A little hops, a little caramel, nice beer.
zvikar (269), Tel-Aviv, Israel Jun 22, 2009 From bottle at Norma Jean, Brown to red color with nice off white head, aroma of american hops, mainly grapefruit some citrus and some malt, flavor is malty with some acid and some herbs, finsih with a low to medium bitterness, body is medium. Not more than OK and not a classic brown ale. DerWeg (621), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 22, 2009 Aroma and taste of vanilla, toasty dark malt, raisin-y lightly tart fruit, caramelly toffee, gorgeous perfect little center note of hops, hint of yeast sour at very end, simply great! Very good fresh bottle at Rhino. BroSpud (424), , Massachusetts, USA Jun 21, 2009 12oz bottle. Very drinkable brown ale. Good caramel and malted roast flavors. Good session beer.
