Brooklyn Brown Ale, made exclusively with American ingredients, won Bronze medals at the Great American Beer Festival in the Strong Ale Category in 1991 and in the American Brown Ale Category in 1992. Brooklyn Brown uses pale, crystal, chocolate, and black malts to attain a complex creamy texture. It is more heavily hopped than its British forbears.

Pours really dark brown with a thin white head from tap. Aroma is pretty low. Some maltiness. Taste is immediately bitter from the roasted malts and hops. Pretty flat hop flavor, just bitterness. Sharp and thin mouthfeel. It’s okay. More bitter than I’d like

@ Radisson (Alna) Oslo 15-1-19: ganska trevlig doft. Smaken är fin med tydlig choklad och kaksmet samt nötter. Gott. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone ---- Soberness not garanteed!

355mL bottle from Beer Cartel BB Attractive looking beer; clear ruby body with dense beige head. Offers generous quantities of malt; toast, cocoa, toffee, distinct nuttiness, with a good helping of spicy, citrusy American hops. Medium bodied, bit of chewy texture to it, moderately high carbonation. Nice depth of malt character - toffee, browned toast, subtle roast grain, with a grass hop hit to boot. Moderate bitterness, dry lingering nuttiness on finish. Decent brown ale, really enjoy the maltiness, kinda wish it had more body, but that’s nit picking.

Pours reddish brown with a medium tan head. Nose is malty and slightly nutty. The taste is somewhat sweet with malt and a nutty charcteristic. Very pleasant and very drinkable. Smooth finish as well.

355ml bottle from Tallinn Kaubamaja, very dark reddish brown colour, medium frothy mostly vanishing tan head, fair lacing. Moderate to heavy toasty malts with notes of chocolate, bread and coffee with moderate citric and resiny hops. Taste is initally moderately sweet and slightly bitter with a hint of sourness and acidity turning into a moderately bitter and slightly sour finish with an astringent feel. Medium body, slick mouthfeel, average carbonation. Quite a pleasant brown ale with somewhat interesting taste and balanced sour-sweet-bitter taste.

On tap at Brooklyn Brewery. This is how I imagine Newcastle Brown Ale would have tasted in the days before mass brewing. Caramel and malt are the dominant notes as expected, but a hop spiciness is definitely present in the finish. Lots of character, and not your typical American beer. As a Brit on tour I enjoyed this!
