sensory first impression: A beautiful, carbonated, deep red ale, with a chocolate nutty aroma, thin tannish head, and dark red and orange highlights. What a beatiful beer. Nice hoppy bite and a malty backbone. Not as heavy as you expect, but not disappointing at all. Lace hangs nicely. A bit thin in weight, but texture and flavor are spot on.

jmm635 (77), Wynnewood, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 5, 2008 Deep brown color with a slightly off-white head. Strong malty aroma with hints of caramel and toffee. Flavor is very similar to coffee ice cream. Too much in my opinion. Not very drinkable. Steely (30), , Sweden Oct 4, 2008 Mahogany red color with a nice tan head. Quite sweet malty aroma with burnt sugar and chocolate. Slightly roasted malt flavor with nutty chocolate hints. Smooth finish with a hint of coffe and short aftertaste. Very drinkable with a light mouthfeel. azlondon (499), Greater London, England Oct 4, 2008 Appearance: Dark redish brown. Little bit of tan head.

Info: 355ml bottle, 4/10-2008, 184/300 Paul150 (20), , Georgia, USA Oct 4, 2008 Poured a dark mahogany brown into a pint glass with a finger of head that dissipated into some decent lacing. Aroma was nutty and also had some nice roasted malt scent. Taste was malty and nutty with some chocolate and coffee overtones. A nice amount of hops (more than something like a Newcastle for comparison’s sake) finished an excellent, drinkable brew. BMan1113VR (905), Los Angeles (and Dallas, TX), California, USA Oct 3, 2008 On tap. Pours a very dark brown with a frothy, light brown head. Aroma is a bit hoppy with some nuts and caramel. Taste is nutty and very malte with some banana esters and coffee. Not very full bodied at all, water like mouthfeel, light carbonation.
