Presentation: It was poured from a growler which was purchased at Consumer’s Beverage. Appearance: The body has a hazy golden color with a soft, off-white head of foam. This head has good retention as it slowly fades from an average size to a light cap, which hangs on to the very end. On the glass it leaves nice, slick spotty lacing. Aroma: The nose is full of wonderful floral and fruity esters. I mostly get notes of honey, with cantaloupe, honeydew, apple and pear. There is also a modest, earthy spice note, like coriander or allspice. Taste/Palate: The flavor is more spicy and honey-like than the nose would suggest. The coriander notes as well as some viney hop notes pop out more in the flavor, and mingle well with a brief honey sweetness which quickly fades. The finish is quite dry with lingering earthy spice hanging onto the tongue. It’s carbonation and body are in excellent balance, making it quite easy to drink, given its abv. Notes: I havent had very many braggot style beers, but this one really grabs my attention. Well done!!!

Solid aroma. Full of honey and spicy belgian yeast. solid malt nose. Slight hints of clove. Appearance is spot on. Nice haze of a golden yellow color. pure white head with outstanding lacing. great retention. has that typical brooklyn belgian yeast flavor. very complex yet subtle. nice honey flavors with a spicy yeast characteristic. nice phenols. very smooth mouthfeel given the abv. no alcohol burn at all, very clean and smooth on the palate.

actually really dug this, and ’nuff respect to the bklyn for doing a braggot. tapped at the world beer fest in RVA. honey evident on the nose along with a lot of spice -- I’d be curious to know if this is a weizen yeast at work in here. I’d also be curious to know if there’s some wheat in the grain bill. so, yeah. honey and spice on the nose. it might come off as a thicker mouthfeel, but on draft it had some nice carbonation, and some alcohol notes served to lighten it up a bit too. warming, which, even on a hot day, was not unpleasant. you get some unexpected notes of neroli in there too, and that also helps to lighten up the overall impression. pretty golden colour, smallish head that manages to stick around with heavy lacing. definitely on the sweet side, but not overbearing. recommended.

Growler from Big Z - this would probably be better classified as a belgian strong ale than a mead - hazy light gold - some honey sweetness in the nose, but there is also a subtle but complex mixture of hay, pepper, thyme, lavender, some earthy/barnyardy smells - lightly sweet in the flavor, but it is mostly tangy, moving to dry and spicy in the finish - quite a bit of herbal, peppery character - wildflower notes - some wheat and other mild grain qualities - dry finish of grass and herbs - very understated, but very well done.

Growler filled at Big Z and consumed the next day. Pours a hazy straw gold with a thin white head that lasted through the first quarter of the glass and left a thin veil of pinpricks with each sip. Very pleasant aroma that reminds me of a saison with the addition of honey. The flavor is very similar with the same nice spicy saison qualities plus the addition of honey. If I hold the beer in my mouth for just a moment, the honey is more pronounced and really adds a nice dimension to this beer. Very, very mild bitterness at the finish. Very enjoyable.

A - Pours a light and clear golden color with a nice one-to-two fingers of creamy white head. The head fades to a nice half finger layer and leaves behind some lacing. S - Aroma is a mix of a light grainy smell, a sweet malty smell, and some nice honey smell. Overall they are well balanced, however, the aroma is a bit mild. T - Starts off with a building wheat malt flavor. There is just a bit of honey that really gets more powerful in the middle. The finish is a really nice sweet blend of the honey and the wheat malt with just a bit of honey on the aftertaste. The flavor is very well balanced. M - Medium-light to almost medium bodied with fairly low carbonation, but enough to make itself known. The beer feels really smooth and crisp, with a hint of creaminess in the middle. D - Super drinkable. The 8% abv is fairly well hidden in very deep and balanced tastes. The sweet honey could have easily taken over here, but stays perfectly in check with the other flavors. A very different, but excellent beer.

Savannah, Ga. - The Distillery - on tap. Murky, dark orange pour with a sticky white head. Nice fresh sprucey aroma with hints of honey. Full bodied flavor with a hint of citrus, some apricots and a back end of cherries. Very fruit-forward and bold. Mouthfeel is thick and sticky. Very enjoyable.
