Growler from Whole Foods. I just read an article about Leor Serkarz’s La Boite spice company and purchased some of his spices, and then there appears a beer brewed with one of his spice blends! A bright, citrusy aroma. Cuvee La Boite is dry and balanced, with subtle notes of yeast, hot pepper, pear, ginger, cardamom, and lots of saffron - wow! Some purists might not like spiced ales, but I am very happy with this one.

Lots of odd additions to the mix that must have a pretty subtle influence on the finished product. Belgian yeast, bubblegum, banana and spice.

Pale yellow with little to no head. Aroma is banana, clove with a touch of lemon. Flavor is banana and clove again with a bit of yeast. Slight citrus with some bread malts. Not bad, but a little flat. Could use a bit of pepper and some effervescence to brighten it up.

Hazy gold like a hefeweizen but with no head. Nose has a lot of Belgian yeast funk with barn hay and musk and straw and faint fruitiness. The flavor is big and grainy, with lots of hay and pils malt, with a saison-like yeast dough eccentricity of funk and hay and a hefty load of coriander. Very lovely.

On tap at HOTB. Sweet and malty with grape must and light alcohol. Fruity hop character. Light golden amber clear with thin white head. Medium-light body with medium carbonation and light warming. Sweet with honey, pale malt, grapes and raisins. Nice sweet finish with sweet honey after and a little warming.

Big belgian strong ale but too many flavors going on and i think the lime leaves were a little out of place.

On tap at Tap East Stratford. Golden hazy thin white bubbles. Estery aroma. Some medicinal quality too. It’s a slightly Americanised version of a strong Belgian. Plus the Belgians I have are fresher than this. It’s ok at best perfumed and medicinal is not good for paying over three quid for a third of a pint.

Tap at surf club. Pours a light hazy golden with one finger white lace. Nose is sweet, bubblegum, light clove, lots of esters. Medium sweet flavor, similar character to that of the nose. Pretty standard Belgian golden with some slight Hefe tendencies. Medium bodied and a fairly dry finish. Solid. Enjoyed this more than I expected to.
