Dark color-black really. No head. Strong aroma of Belgian yeast, candi sugar, dark fruit, and spice. Flavor largely of dark fruit, spice, Belgian yeast, and candi sugar. Really nice beer!

UPDATED: FEB 2, 2011 On tap @ Rattle N Hum. Dark brown/black with a little tan head. Aroma starts out with some dark fruit, raisins and cherries, with a little bit of a malty caramel. A nice nutty, toasted malt note comes out on the palate. Smooth with just the faintest hint of sourness, and a nice smoky chocolate finish that lasts quite a bit. The alcohol is hidden very well. There’s a lot going on in this beer but it all fits together quite nicely, would definitely recommend trying.

Aroma of bubble gum, candi sugar, fruit, pepper. The flavor is the exact same, a bit like a dunkelweizen, really. Drak brown pour, tan head. The body is medium. Peppery finish. Decent overall.

On tap at Crew. Pours black with purple highlights and a medium sized beige head. Plum and candi sugar, chocolate, roast, more plum, and Belgian yeast. Smooth and well balanced with a nice gentle warming alcohol note. Belgian yeast again, more chocolate, plum, and sweet maltiness.

Poured a flat dull dark color. Aroma of chocolate et cetera. Decent and alco was camouflaged.

On tap at South 4th in Brooklyn. Pours an opaque dark brown with a thin white head. Not sure why I was expecting a thicker mouthfeel, but I was surprised by how thin this one was for a ~9% ABV stout. Very roasty and nutty with a decent amount of hops. Alcohol is well-hidden, like most Belgian-style brews. One of Brooklyn’s better entries, it is definitely worth a try if you’ve had their ICS or Dark Matter.
