COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Once a "Ghost Bottle" that we only made for ourselves, Brooklyn Cuvťe Noire finally journeys beyond our walls. A stout-like blend of German and British pale and dark malts, this beer fermented with Belgian yeast and then spends more than six months in Kentucky bourbon barrels. Dry, brisk, and complex, showing notes of chocolate, coffee, citrus, vanilla and coconut, Cuvťe Noire is refermented in this bottle of Champagne yeast. It is a most excellent accompaniment means to dinner.

Draft. Poured dark brown color with an average fizzy white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate to heavy roasted yeast and alcohol aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy toasted sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where exceeded.

This beer is big in flavor. Pours black with a tan head and it smells of bourbon sweetness with a bit of orange and other fruity esters. The taste is vanilla from the barrels first which then subsides to some fruit notes and caramel sweetness, some earthyness as well. Very enjoyable ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Sweet like orange wood smell. Like a stale orange peel.... Maybe some licorice. Belgian candy sweetness. Pours looking strange..... Head is big and rough. Dissipates quickly. Looks thin. Brown. Dark brown in the glass. Taste is dry dry dry. A subtle sweetness. Really not very dynamic. Alcohol is there in the finish but not bad. Palate is extremely smooth and dry. Itís working. Overall this is an alright beer. Thereís nothing bad about it and the smooth palate helps it. If you like wine this would be solid. I like it but not mind blowing. You know what I come back and up the overall rating because this has that x factor. Iím sipping on this and loving it... and thatís what a beer should be about.

Malty, pretty sweet, highly carbed. Bit of acetone in the aroma. Belgian spices fit the style, though this is not really my thing.

Black, thin tan head
Aroma of soft wine, mellow roast, barrel aged nose, soft alcohol
Taste of soft dark malts, soft red fruits, dark sugars, dab of red wine, soft yeasr, alcohol well hiddem
Palate - soft carb, bit thin. Finish as main flavour, warming alcohol, soft red fruits, easy for abv
Overall - Quite a decent impy - didnít strike me at the time as being something exceptional...not sure it was really worth all the extra expense

Bottle. Pours an opaque black color with a dark brown head. Aroma is yeasty, roast, coffee, toast, caramel, plum, and slightly floral. Flavor is caramel, toast, chocolate, plum, toffee, yeast, and a light spicy finish. Thanks for sharing JB.

Oh I liked this so very much. I thought it was a belgian strong, it certainly fit that category well. Brown sugar, ripe plums, dark chocolate in the nose. Very complex aromas. Thick frothy tan head, dark, canít see through, small bubbles. Dry but thin is what I initially think when I taste it. Chocolate taste and fruit is present. At the end is quite spicy, with whatever it is they added. Got even better as it warmed.

750 ml bottle shared by Jason H. Pitch black color with little head to speak of. Aroma is fruity with Belgian yeast and light nuances of vanilla bourbon, nice! The flavor is subtle.

Flavor starts with Belgian yeast, earthy malt, and a light orange pith in the backend of the sip. Itís hard to pick out the orange but it is there in a pith / peel kind of hint. The pith helps cut through the yeast and earthy malts. Alcohol is hidden real well. Medium-bodied, with low level of carbonation. Interesting brew, it reminds me of the chocolate covered oranges you can find around Christmas time.

2014.
Appearance: Deep chestnut body, looks rather clear though opaque through the center. The head is very foamy and thin with decent retention and a tan hue.
Aroma: Chocolate and bourbon make the aroma mostly. The chocolate comes off fudge like with with some banana and a slight harshness towards it. I smell hints of orange, but only because Iím looking for it due to the description. The aroma is mild and leans a touch sweet.
Taste: A bit thin in flavor with weak bourbon overlying a sort of muddy base, semi-Belgian like flavors up front with hints of chocolate. Mid-taste it gets some banana and hints of spice, the chocolate fades here. The finish picks up hints of the orange peel, but again I only notice it because Iím looking for it, along with mild chocolate and a boozy throat feel. On another sip coconut comes out a bit towards the end. The beer is a bit confusing, light on the palate with a mild sweetness and a bit of booze and subtle flavors Iím not used to in a stout.
Palate: A bit watery for an imperial stout, and a bit too carbonated.
Overall: The price combined with the big flaws of this make it a beer I would recommend splitting, but not buying for sole consumption. The stout base needs some beefing and the mouthfeel needs work on it, the barrel shows a bit too little also. Overall an experience Iíd pass on unless changed.
