JoeMcPhee (4061), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Sep 28, 2008 Deep brown beer with a creamy tan head. Aroma is quite nice. Rich nutty/chocolatey sweetness. Softly bready malt sweetness with a well-lagered cleanness. Sort of doughy and malty with lots of rich figgy/fruity sweetness. Really great balance with the fruitiness playing well off of the sweet rich malts. Lightly herbal hop finish. I wasn’t expecting much from this, but it is really quite good, and at 1.90 its a fantastic deal. notalush (2160), Rawn-kawn-kohma, New York, USA Sep 21, 2008 I bought this because it was a buck ninety for a 500ml - I figured, even if it’s bad, who cares? - it’s 1.90 - anyway, this really is much better than the ratings suggest - pours a dark amber, with a moderate lace - aroma of cherries, nuts, treacle, pastry dough, bread pudding - the flavor isn’t a sweet, and actually has a tiny bit of tartness to it - a lot of doughy character in the flavor, with cane sugar in the background, cherries, raisins, figs, nutty character - a touch of hops - lingering clean sweetness in the finish - fairly flavorful (but surprisingly sweet) for the abv - like a toned down assam bock - it’s pretty good - actually, for the price, it’s damn good. bikesandbeers (429), San Diego, California, USA Jul 31, 2008 500ml bottle dark brown with a nice foamy head. malt aroma. bland flavor thin with a bit of nuttiness. blah carruthm (546), Seattle, Washington, USA Jul 13, 2008 dark brown pour as promised with a well sized light tan head. malty aroma, but the taste doesn’t deliver the punch and the finish is odd. yespr (8539), Copenhagen O, Denmark Jul 6, 2008 From tap. Pours dark brown with a huge light tan head. Aroma is roasted malt and light acidic. Flavour is mild fruity and light acidic roasted malt. Goes into a light dry buterish and medium dry finish.
