COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
“For about eight years now, we’ve brewed a Brooklyn-style hop monster called BLAST! It’s a robust IPA using both British and Pacific Northwest hops. We haven’t had enough space to brew much of it, but we hear that people really enjoy BLAST! when it shows up. And it’s one of our favorite beers here at the brewery. Well, now we’d like more of you to see our hoppier side. Meet BLAST!’s big brother, Brooklyn Detonation Ale. It’s a copper-colored pale ale with British malt character, American hop ebullience, Brooklyn attitude and disturbing drinkability. British caramel malts lend richness and depth, while a blend of American hops give the beer a minerally backbone and explosive aromatics (with a special guest appearance by our pal East Kent Golding as ‘The English Aristocrat’). Brooklyn Detonation Ale is mighty tasty. It probably even gives you fresher breath And whiter teeth, but we can’t prove that part. Nor can we support the claim that it concentrates the mind on life’s better aspects. However, we can guarantee that it’s terrific with pork tacos, Thai food, Indian dishes, burgers, and sharp cheeses. So have yourself some Brooklyn Detonation Ale – after all, isn’t it about time you blew up?” – Garrett Oliver

FROTHINGSLOSH (3947) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 22, 2010
UPDATED: JAN 3, 2011 Sampled on draft at the Headkeeper in Greensburg PA this beer poured a murky red-brown color with a medium sized beige head that produced some lacing. The aroma was strong fresh squeezed grapefruit. The flavor was tart, tangy and insanely sweet with a bit of caramel and very strong notes of grapefruit, orange, lemon and pineapple. Lovely and intense fruitiness. The finish was long, sweet and full of citric hops. The body was thick, smooth and full. The alcohol was well hidden. Incredible.

Grapefruit and hops aroma. Pours hazy amber with a small white heard. Sweet hops flavor, not too bitter with a smooth finish.

On tap at the brewery. I am surprised that I am first to rate this. In my opinion this DIPA is way better than the blast. This is darker copper than blast and while all the hoppiness and some bitter is there, this brew is sweeter with more malt backbone and simply tastier all around. i get brown sugar and maple in addition to citrus and pine forest. by far my favorite thing at brewery this weekend.

Draft at CAH 4Q 10. Pours copper with 1-finger off-white head. Nose is black pepper, Simcoey hops, malt. Tastes hoppy, with a big malt bill, some fruit, some mild late funk, and a very smooth palate with well hidden alcohol.

Growler thanks to Dmac. Pours a moderate orange with a slightly off white head. Aroma is of citrus hops, pine, tropical fruit and light malt. Not much note of the high ABV in the aroma. Taste is complex, with some nice piney, citrusy, resiny hops, tropical fruit, mainly mango and coconut with some caramel sweetness hiding in there. ABV is very well hidden as this one is dangerously drinkable. Top notch IIPA.

Pours a bright, slightly-browned orange with a nice white head and good lacing as it goes down. Nose is overflowing with juicy hops. Lots of pine and citrus rind with a few tropical notes intermixed. Taste comes down a bit from here but still packs quite a punch of resiny hops. Mouthfeel is somewhat fuller bodied but I didn’t detect much sweetness. Drinkability is quite high; certainly one of my favorite Brooklyn beers to date. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 09-28-2010
