COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brooklyn Dry Stout is a bold, reddish-black Irish-style stout, rich in color but low in alcohol and very drinkable. The dark colors results from brewing with roasted malts, lending Brooklyn Dry Stout a chocolate/coffee-like flavor with a bit of an espresso bite. The finish is dry and crisp and invites another pint.

A nice contrast to all the "craft" stouts Ive been having lately - a beer that tries to be drinkable, rather than to be a statement. nice mild ashy floral aroma, light but round in the mouth, with a chalky and earthy finish, moderately roasty. unfortunately bad head retention lets it down. another very solid if unexciting beer from brooklyn.

Small bottle. Black with brown head. Nose is black coffee, lactic sourness. That combination continues in the flavour, hop bitterness. Dont care for this flavour profile.

Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a pint glass. The appearance was a black color with a one white to off white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute leaving some light speckled lacing clinging around the glass. The smell had a dry roasty coffee bean which came across slightly espresso - like. Dark chocolate came through in a light sort of way. The taste was mainly dry and roasty with the same aftertaste and finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light on the body with a pretty good sessionability about it. The carbonation was fairly subdued but still good for its style. Overall, this was a pretty good Irish Dry Stout that I would have again.

Very complex for an Irish stout, probably the most complex beer of this style that I have tried to date, especially aromatically. Also heavier and thicker-bodied. Tastes more alcoholic than it is--Id guess in the mid 5-6% range but RateBeer is telling me 4.7% and thats hard to believe. Flavor is quite sour, mouthfeel is thick with somewhat prickly carbonation. Dry up front and dry finish, but the middle of each sip is rich and a bit syrupy. Moderate roast. I find the commercial description pretty close to spot-on: the color, flavor, and finish fits what this beer is marketed as. Im pretty impressed with its complexity but I would appreciate a lighter body, and less sourness and sweetness. I find the heaviness of this beer limits its drinkability to me--I wouldnt characterize it as drinkable or inviting another pint, because after one, I felt too full to drink any more.

12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Poured dark brown, very minimal tan head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt and some caramel. Taste is quite similar, Roast malts, coffee and chocolate. A bit of a thin body for a stout but nevertheless a nice drinkable beer.

Aroma: Dark chocolate mingles with creme brulee and a hint of espresso. Appearance: Pitch black pour with a foamy mocha head that settles into a slim ring. Flavor: Leaner than the nose suggests; creme brulee and espresso are lighter and sit atop the lingering chocolate presence, which endures to the finish. Palate: Medium body, sticky texture, flat carbonation, abrupt finish. Overall: Very well made; a pleasant surprise at the end of June.

Pours a dark buckeye brown with virtually no head. Aroma is dark and smoky malts with some chocolate and java. The flavor accentuates the dark roasted malts. The beer maintains the coffee flavor throughout but becomes more nutty towards the end. As advertised, the finish is incredibly smooth. A highly enjoyable session stout.

Transfer from BA review on 5-31-12- Appearance Served a black body with a light off white head. The head faded in moderate time to give a nice level of lacing. Smell The smell of roasted malt and a light amount of sweet caramel. There is a light aroma of roasted coffee and nut that mix with the malty base. Taste The taste started out a bit on the dark roasted breadier side with some light roasted coffee notes mixed within. The roasted coffee grew a bit stronger more midway through the taste and in turn gives the brew a more bitter taste. As the taste advances to its end it bitters even more as lighter hop flavors and some cocoa come to the tongue. Mouthfeel The body of the beer is a little bit on the lighter side with the carbonation level being slightly above average. The body could use a bit of the boost to accentuating the nice roasted flavors, with possibly a nitrogen pour enhancing the overall drinking experience. Overall It had some nice flavors due to the lighter hop and more cocoa at the end of the taste (which did it well), but the body was a little on the low side. Overall it was a just above average dry Irish.
