Commercial Description:
Brooklyn East India Pale Ale, originally a summer seasonal, has been getting raves since becoming a year round offering in 1996. Garrett Oliver, a student of English brewing and beer history, uses English malts and hops to brew his EIPA in the classic, heavily-hopped style of the 19th century beers created for British soldiers serving in India.

Clear Copper pour with a filmy white head. Aroma is citrus hops with a light caramelly maltiness. Flavor is bitter, slightly citrusy hops and a mild tofee maltiness. Not a very fresh bottle and I think it may suffer because of this.

(12 ounce bottle) The appearance has a clear copper amber look. The taste is a balance between malty and hoppy, has a nice finish.

thicker than a lot of IPAs, this beer tastes malty and hoppy, and is very fruity flowery on the nose. Unfortunately, it tastes stale and far from fresh. Bottle at Total Wine and More, Naples, Florida.

12 oz bottle at beerbistro. Pours a slightly murky copper/gold with tiny white cap. Big resiny hoppy nose with some citrus. Flavour is big and grapefruity with a good malt backbone. Medium body. Very good.

12 oz bottle. Golden amber pour with a medium off white head. Aroma of hops and sweet sugar. Taste of peppery hops but a lot of malt was also present, almost and IPA/APA hybrid. Nice sharp finish, yet smooth for the ABV.

The first thing i noticed was that this was more of an APA than an IPA. Brooklyn tried to do sort of a mix between an english IPA and a west coast IPA and came out with a muddled mix of the two. not bad, but you have have to chose one way or another. most west coast IPA drinkers will find this too malty, not enough citrus and pine, and english IPA drinkers will find it too hoppy.
