COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brooklyn East India Pale Ale, originally a summer seasonal, has been getting raves since becoming a year round offering in 1996. Garrett Oliver, a student of English brewing and beer history, uses English malts and hops to brew his EIPA in the classic, heavily-hopped style of the 19th century beers created for British soldiers serving in India.

clear light copper/golden color, nice foamy white head that dissipates into a thin ring, sweet, malty, toasty, and cookieish, piney, crisp, a bit earthy, hints of fruitiness; crisp, malty, decent bitterness, a bit piney, fruity, toasty malt, flavor is a bit bland, flavors don’t come together very well, average texture

UPDATED: SEP 16, 2009 Hoppy aroma. Smelled bitter. Poured brown/copper color. No head, no lacing. Nice English bitter flavor. Hoppy finish. A perfect stand-by IPA. Not amazing, but consistent.

UPDATED: AUG 25, 2011 A decent IPA but one that does not stand out in a crowded field. +++ Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer pours a copper color with a medium sized tan head that lingers a bit. The aroma is sweet and grapefruity with a mild floral hop scent underneath. Light in body. Light sweet grapefruity flavor No significant aftertaste. Not bad, but there are far better out there.

Strange color of slightly rusted brown, dark golden yellow with a thin but firm off-white head that sits briefly. Lacing in inky thin blobs and a collar remains present til about mid glass. Aroma is highly floral and crisp, quite unique with lime skin notes at first but other citrus rinds of lemon and orange begin to combine over some passion fruit, apple, and pineapple with strong spicey grasses and resiny sweet laden hoppyness. Quite an interesting nose, changes from time to time and levels out as it warms keeping a solid citrusy hop nose and light dry malt backing. Elaborately attractive in the smell! Taste is nice and clean with a highly floral tone to the hops at first but that gets pushed aside to let in citrusy things that dance around all the way through to the finish. A nice dry malt backing keeps the balance in check. Nice complexing little finish thats dry, crisp and hoppy with a resin spiced citrus lime-like tone that bitters calmly yet with a good lingering strength that mixes some with the dry malt backing. Intriguing flavors to say the least. Not overly hopped or monsterous but complexing and spicey with a favorable bittering little floral bite. Feel is pretty close to full, sweet and citrusy full of bittering lime-like bite. Finishes well with dry spicey hop character that lingers in good length. One of the more interestingly citrusy IPA's I've had in awhile, I really liked the floral/citrus character this has. A keeper for sure eh!

Clear amber with a full, white head. Interesting hop aroma with some nice citrus qualities, but also floral elements, biscuits and light, nondescript malt. Average body with low carbonation. Pretty strong hop flavors relative to the malt, though neither are exceedingly strong. Some of the citrus and pine, maybe some tea leaves, but none of the over-the-top American hop monster stuff. Seemingly more English than American in origin, there is enough malt to balance the stronger hop elements. Pretty tasty, though I would prefer it to be slightly dryer and with a longer finish. Otherwise, splendid.

Slight head. Very slight sediment in the bottle. Vibrant copper colour. Powerful citric hop aroma. Extremely crisp grapefruit flavour, with a clean finish. However, the aftertaste is excessively tart - like freshly squeezed lemon juice - and lingers disconcertingly, becoming even more sharp. I thought I was enjoying this until the aftertaste intruded. I'm generally a fan of IPAs but this one just goes to far at the end and doesn't have much else to balance the aggressive attack. Bottled (355ml) from www.beersofeurope.co.uk

Cloudy amber color with small head that dissipates quickly. Low carbonation. Wonderfully complex flavor and finish. Dry, piney and spicey hips.

Found this one on tap at the local pub. Pours a nice golden amber with a 1/2'' head. Malty aromas and flavors predominate, however, I found this one to be a bit watery compared with some of the other IPA's i've had. It is, however, a fairly well-rounded beer, worth sampling.

Head is initially average sized, frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing. Body is light amber. Aroma is lightly malty (cookie), moderately hoppy (orange/apricot, flowers), light notes of peach and dust. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Solid but gentle (by American standards) British style IPA. Great balance...plenty of bitterness, not too much citric bite (probably little or no high-alpha hop varieties used), with enough malt to keep it succulent. Nice aroma too...mostly hops, as expected, but not that pungent resinous style you get with most American renditions. Fuggles perhaps, dunno. Thumbs up.

$1.29 for a single 12-oz. Light to medium amber, with an inch head. Has the characteristics of an IPA in the scent: hoppy, citrusy, etc... but it's a bit subdued. I like a nice strong smelling IPA. Hoppy with no flavor. Plain, ordinary... boring. Nothing special whatsoever. Boring... skip this IPA and go for a better one.
