Commercial Description:
Brooklyn East India Pale Ale, originally a summer seasonal, has been getting raves since becoming a year round offering in 1996. Garrett Oliver, a student of English brewing and beer history, uses English malts and hops to brew his EIPA in the classic, heavily-hopped style of the 19th century beers created for British soldiers serving in India.

bottle poured a medium amber color with a one finger frothy white head that quickly fell to a thin layer. aroma has sweet grapefruit citrus hops, light pine, faint bitterness from the mild caramel malt, and some sweetness. mouth feel is light with a flat feeling and lack of much carbonation. bitterness tops off the citrus hops, mild minerals, pale malt, and a touch of sweetness. definitely became worse the warmer it got.

12 oz bottle from premier gourmet. pour orange with a nice white ehad. good lacings. aromas are of tired grassy hops and questionable malt choices. kinda awkward aromas of hot glue on paper made of hops. flavours are slightly better. very grassy and bitter but in an unpleasant way. not a very enjoyable IPA. to bad, i was expecting more from the brew.

Amber in color with small white head. Good aroma including hops, spices, malts. This was a pleasant surprise. Purchased 12oz bottles in Fleming Island, Florida. I’ll be purchasing again.

Alefest sample. I didn’t see the East India on the label at first so I thought this was an impressive Pale Ale until bigmmartin told me otherwise. Then I had to correct my opinion. Citrusy, earthy hops with a llight malt backbone. Flavor is mostly a mild bitterness but with a good mouthfeel and clean finish. Good but not impressive.

Poured a golden color with thin, quickly dissapating white head. Tasted hoppy, but not what one would expect from an IPA. Went down really smooth and was very refreshing. A great beer for a hot day.

I think this might be the worst IPA I’ve ever had. Imbalanced, skunky and putrid...yes I said putrid. Flavor leaves a rancid bitter aftertaste. Horrible.

Sampled from bottle at Dayton Ale Fest. Doesn’t contain the strong hop aroma and flavor I’m used to in most IPAs. But maybe that’s what they were going for with an EIPA. Definitely more mellow in flavor, but does have a very nice crisp clean finish. Slightly hoppy and very drinkable.
