Commercial Description:
Brooklyn East India Pale Ale, originally a summer seasonal, has been getting raves since becoming a year round offering in 1996. Garrett Oliver, a student of English brewing and beer history, uses English malts and hops to brew his EIPA in the classic, heavily-hopped style of the 19th century beers created for British soldiers serving in India.

Nice India Pale Ale... The smell was strong of hops - the appearance similar to all IPA’s but with a nice white head (half inch maybe). Overall a great beer.

clear amber color, quickly dissipating white head. aroma of orange, grapefruit; hops and citrus. i caught a mild citrus flavor, but not much more. too mild to be recommended as an ipa. kinda water mouth feel. not much happening here.

Orange. Fine lasting head. Aroma: Floral hoppy, malty-sweet. Great. Taste: Sweet and nicely hoppy, reisin. Britain meets American IPA - good match - and good value for money (it’s quite cheam in Denmark)

Brooklyn East Indian Pale Ale ABV: 6.8% IBU: Volume: 12 fl oz Glass: Tapered 16oz Purchased at: Sherwood Liquors Consumed on: Wednesday, February 27th, 2008 first impression: Thick head calms down quickly to a thin foamy cover. The color is rich and varied and has subtle golden variations within a deep red hue. The hops are very present, and the carbonation is very active. Lace hangs nicely to the glass. The color is very nice. Aroma is mindful of a clean, wet brick walk. Lingering attention is in the upper back roof of the mouth. Aroma/Olfactory: Malt is creamy, flexible, and exquisite. Just a hint of nuttiness. Hops are grassy, citrusy, and very nice. Yeast/Bacteria is of a brick or basement aroma, but not bad at all. Reminds one of autumn. Raisins, soy and smoke, with impressions of a field after the rain. Visuals/Appearance: Color one of the most beautiful beers I know of despite a rather lame head. Liquid is quite clear, and actively carbonated Head is minimal but lace hangs if thinly for the duration, just slightly off white. The head is a downer, but minimal points off. Taste/Flavor: Lightly sweet, and ends with a rich, thorough bite. Slightly sour by design, and bitter is its most welcome aspect. Palate/Tactile: Body/Mouthfeel is full and luxurious - like a real hot chocolate in texture, but not in flavor at all. Texture is creamy with a finishing bite. Carbonation is lively and plays off the color nicely. Finish is thankfully long and bitter. Overall, a very nice exemplar of an IPA - slightly sour, very bitter, biting, beautiful. Stands up to spicy foods, delicious on its own. Easily available, affordable and one of my favorite beers to enjoy.

Liked. A fairly laid back IPA, the hops are nice and pungent, very floral and piney, but I would have liked more of them. I’ve had APA’s with more hops than this guy, and while that doesn’t mean this beer is bad by any means, when you’re going into a beer thinking it’s going to have some reckoning hops, it’s a bit of a disappointment when they aren’t slamming you’re palate. A nice lighter IPA.

Very hoppy aroma on pour into a pilsner from a bottle. The smell also is of pine and bit on the palate as well. A clean, crisp beer but a bit watery. A solid IPA with another consistant flavor from Brooklyn.

Nice citrusy, hoppy flavor. Pours nice and tan. Typical of a IPA basically, pretty decent.

Pours a crystal clear honey-golden color. A foamy, off-white head leaves behind random patches of lacing. The aroma shows orange chiffon, dry grassy hops, wet grains, and spicy floral notes. The flavor is grainy up front, moving quickly on to bitter grassy hops, sweet citrus, and pale caramel malts. The medium body sports a lively, overly fizzy carbonation. The bitter finish lingers for quite some time. Decent IPA, but a bit too grainy in my opinion. Far from special.
