Commercial Description:
Brooklyn East India Pale Ale, originally a summer seasonal, has been getting raves since becoming a year round offering in 1996. Garrett Oliver, a student of English brewing and beer history, uses English malts and hops to brew his EIPA in the classic, heavily-hopped style of the 19th century beers created for British soldiers serving in India.

Single from Total Wine. Nice IPA hop aroma enveloped in a malt aroma. Good citric and earthy hop IPA flavor, and a nice finishing bitterness. Definitely in the English character, and a pretty respectable brew with 6.8% abv. Quite a bit different from the multitude of American West Coast IPA’s. Drinkable and enjoyable. Well above average, but a long way from world class.

Pours a deep gold in the glass with a thin white head. Aroma is grassy and a bit soapy. The flavor is much of the same. Overall I’m not very impressed, but I also had high expectations after liking the brooklyn lager so much

Sampled as part of BJCP training session as the representative English IPA. Pours a light amber with a decent head. Aroma of biscuit and caramel malts with a corresponding hop accent of earth and spice malts. Flavor matches. Nice.

Bottled in a very nice pub in Baden, Switzerland. It pours an amber beer with a small head. The nose is very rich and wonderfully fruity. Hints of quinces in both aroma and taste. Fruity, hoppy with hints of eucalyptus. The bitterness is rather pronounced. I was quite impressed by this IPA. Rerate: Closer to an english IPA than a american one in my opinion. Less impressed than at the first sampling.

Pours dark amber with small foamy head. Aroma is of floral, woody hops and sweet, toasty malt. Flavor is very malty with earthy, woody, flowery hops. Smooth palate. Not an outstanding IPA but well balanced for an English Pale Ale.

Bottle sample. Clear amber with a white head. Floral hoppy aroma with some fruitiness. Flavor of some sweet malt, bitter hops, and a bit of citrus in the finish. Medium body. OK.

one of the better english style IPAs i have run across. the reason being the hops were turned up and the malt did not dominant like some EIPAs do. anyway great citrus maybe pine like hop finish, with a nice balanced malt flavor. great feel in the mouth, not too watery proves for easy drinking.

$$$$$$$$$ bottle at Beer Bistro. Very good dazzling hops that don’t bowl you over with resiny intensity or citrus-pith bitterness. Tasty. Actually smells more hoppy than it tastes. We need this at the LCBO.
