Commercial Description:
Brooklyn East India Pale Ale, originally a summer seasonal, has been getting raves since becoming a year round offering in 1996. Garrett Oliver, a student of English brewing and beer history, uses English malts and hops to brew his EIPA in the classic, heavily-hopped style of the 19th century beers created for British soldiers serving in India.

Bottled - Pours a clean amber with a fairly nice sized head.. Nose is tons of fresh picked hops..Flavor is resinous hops and lots of them... as the beer warms, more of the malt comes out.. Bitter on the back and sides of your tounge.. great IPA from Brooklyn

Not sure how I felt about this beer, yo. Da pour was da best ting about dis offerin’ from Brooklyn Brewery. The beautiful amber color wit da white ring was pleasin’ to da eye, but not much else. Da weak aroma was like da hops was tryin’ to come out but never made it, yo. Da taste was peculiar. It started out sweet, den mid swallow turned bitter. But not too bitter or two sweet. Dis beer could not make up its mind on what it wanted to be. Da only ting it wasn’t was great. I will not trow anudda one of dees down my troat (Sorry for Brooklyn Brewery I have to channel my inner NYC)

Bottle - huge grapefuit hop nose. Beautiful color ... deep golden with a touch of orange through it. Off white head that was gone with surprising speed. Maybe I babied the pour too much. Delicious beer! Big malt up front and a big, bitter hop finish.

(Bottle (best before 4/07) from <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/Place/maine/augusta/lou’s-beverage-barn/4790.htm target=blank>Lou’s Beverage Barn) A little light on the palate but a nice-tasting IPA...Pours clear light amber with about a finger and a half of fluffy biscuit head. Aroma is mostly flowery hops and a bit of breadiness. Mouthfeel is pretty smooth but kind of light. A few traces of lacing. Tastes of medium bitterness underlaying the flowery hops and perhaps some fruitiness. Perhaps some faint caramel and bread. Has kind of a light feel to it but seems like a good refined IPA (but probably well-filtered).

Well this was wretched. Apologies to Beerdrenched for sharing this with him. Pours clear bronze with a small off-white head. The aroma has musty caramel with some diacetly and spicy hops. Medium body with soft carbonation. The taste starts with sweet malt, then a load of butterscotch and spicy hops. The finish just brings a bunch of staleness. This may not have been very fresh (I would have known if they dated the bottle), but I can’t see this being good fresh.

Decent sized off white head of medium sized bubbles. Very good carbonation. Nice hoppy aroma. Primarily resinous piney hops with a little citrus thrown in. Slight roasted presence also. Now that it warms I am getting a little lavendar pot-pourri in there also. Color is a medium amber. Good bitterness with a little bit of roasted grains again. The flavor hsa more of a floral hop presence. More lavendar and hoppy bitterness at the finish. A decent and hoppy IPA.

(Bottle, BB 03/07) Pours a clear amber body with a small white head. Aroma of citrus, caramel, syrup from canned pineapple, and light florals. Flavor of hops, caramel malt, and nuts.

bottle-thanks(?) to vyvvy for the sample. pours orange with a small white head. nose is carmel, highly fussel, astringent with lots of butterscotch diacyetl. Man, this brewery really cranks out alot of diacyetl bombs. everything other than the black chocolate have diaceytl in them. flavors are buttery and lightly citric with some artificial extract malt profile notes. finish of cooked veggies. man this is really bad. drain pour!
