Commercial Description:
Brooklyn East India Pale Ale, originally a summer seasonal, has been getting raves since becoming a year round offering in 1996. Garrett Oliver, a student of English brewing and beer history, uses English malts and hops to brew his EIPA in the classic, heavily-hopped style of the 19th century beers created for British soldiers serving in India.

Bottle at McRaney’s. Orangy amber. Very citrus and floral hop aroma. Not great but not bad.

Beer looks to be the same color of clean motor oil with a slight haze to it, a 1” rocky crown was produced and it as ok retention. There is something about the color of the brew that seems a little off to me it looks a touch to yellow it is hard to explain. Aroma is fairly mild with the hops is most noticeable as they should be, lots of floral notes and sweet caramel type malts. For an IPA the aroma is a little too passive it’s not aggressive enough for me this would be a wicked smelling American pale ale but to weak for this IPA. Mouth feel nice and smooth, good carbonation and doesn’t feel thin. Taste is much better than the aroma, aggressive hops, a unique lemon lime flavor witch I have never come across before, pine, and lots of very rich malts. Very easy drinking brew I can see myself drinking tons of this it seems to go down easier than most other IPA’s

Light amber pour with a white head. Citrusy hops and a tad bit malty. Flavor is the opposite. More malt flavor than hops. Leaves a slight hop flavor at the end. Lacing on the glass. It was alright.

12 ounce bottle from Vintage Cellar in Blacksburg, VA. Pours a slightly hazy copper color with a thin head. Fair head retention and lacing. Aroma is malty with caramel and citrus hops. Taste is bitter, leafy hops with a nutty caramel note. Medium bodied. Best by June 2009.

Pours darker golden brown with minimal head. I get hops on the aroma, a bitter smell from the hops and a bit of malt there. On the palate up front I get hops, subtle malt and really not much else. I guess it is doing what it should to an extent for an IPA, but not much else.

Purchased at Ross Deli in Lakewood as part of a mixed 12 pack. The aroma here is a nice slightly buttery malt with a good helping of citrus. The flavor follows with that buttery malt, but the bitterness doesn’t lend itself to it as well as I would like. It comes off too crisp, but in a dry and bring manner. It could use a little sweetness to liven this up.

Bottle - Pours light amber with low white head. Aroma is nice, typical of IPA, not as strong as some, and very smooth. I think this is one of the less stronger IPA’s. It is very drinkable, a nice intro to IPA’s. Aftertaste has a little lingering carbonation taste. Hops in the aftertaste dissipates faster that most IPA’s. Overall nice brew.
